An Outlaw Music Festival show which happened to land on Bob Dylan‘s birthday has seen the songwriter play some of his best-known hits.
Dylan, who turned 84 on May 24, performed thirteen songs as part of his setlist on the Outlaw Music Festival tour. Willie Nelson and Billie Strings are also part of the festival line-up, which featured on the Cascades Amphitheater stage in Ridgefield, Washington, last night. Dylan performed a thirteen-song set, two songs shorter than his previous date at the Spokane Stadium in Washington. A classic from his discography and a cover which had Dylan fans trying to identify the blues track for hours were seemingly cut from the set, while a Charlie Rich cover and Desolation Row were kept in.
The unknown blues song was identified as Axe and the Wind, a George Butler song Dylan had not played until these Outlaw Music Festival dates. A somewhat stripped-back setlist for his birthday performance has still been well received by those who attended the show in Ridgefield. A full setlist can be found below.
- Gotta Serve Somebody
- Simple Twist of Fate
- Forgetful Heart
- Early Roman Kings
- Under the Red Sky
- I’ll Make It All Up To You (Charlie Rich cover)

It is not the first time Dylan has performed a show on his birthday, with a clip of his performance in Dresden, Germany, from 2000, shared online. Dylan can be heard saying he’ll “remember this birthday for a while” at the end of the show. A setlist for said show can be found below.

Fellow Outlaw Music Festival musician celebrated his birthday not too long ago either, with the 92-year-old performer headlining each of the tour dates. Nelson celebrated his ninety-second birthday on April 30. His performances on the tour are made up of covers and a handful of originals.

I was at the concert and was wondering why the 2 big screen TV’s weren’t on for Dylan’s performance.
Please explain.
