Bruce Springsteen fans hit out at ‘bigot’ in the crowd of Land of Hope and Dreams tour

Bruce Springsteen fans have criticised a “bigot” heard in the crowd at a recent show on the Land of Hope and Dreams tour.

The Boss has been touring across North America with a politically charged show featuring a cover of Bob Dylan‘s Chimes of Freedom and a new protest song, Streets of Minneapolis. Springsteen has made his thoughts on President Donald Trump and the current Republican government clear with his scathing putdowns of power during his shows. While many support the message Springsteen is currently sharing, some in the crowd of his Cleveland show were vocally not on the side of The E Street Band frontman. A post to the r/BruceSpringsteen subreddit had people share their thoughts on the alleged incident.

An attendee wrote: “Cleveland show bigot. Was up in section 221 and at the intro to My City of Ruins a man started shouting bigoted comments about immigrants while claiming he was a veteran, so we all needed to respect him. Does anyone know what happened there? He stopped after a bunch of backlash, but I didn’t get to see if he was removed or left. Seems like a waste of money…”

Other fans in attendance at the show were staggered to hear an alleged veteran shouting down The Boss during his protest against President Trump. A fan wrote: “I remain dumbfounded at people who followed Bruce for years and are now throwing tantrums over this tour. If only he left some clues to his political beliefs over decades of songwriting focused on this country.”

Another added: “Why would someone make that up? I don’t get it. I remember some shows where people walked out during American Skin (41 Shots). Left to use the restroom or smoke or totally leave, whichever it was, they were showing their anger about the contents. I love the song, personally.”

A third shared: “How do right-wingers still think Bruce speaks for them? He’s made it more than clear that he is on the right side of history. Any right-wing Bruce fans have obviously never listened to his lyrics.”

Springsteen fans had also raged at the “pit lottery” conducted for fans wanting to get closer to the stage. An irate fan took to the r/BruceSpringsteen subreddit and shared their thoughts on what had made the tour such a disappointing one. They wrote: “I think we’re overdue for another post exposing the underbelly of the worst of Springsteen fan conduct: the artificial pit monopoly held by the Spring-Nuts.

“I’m not going to get into the whole MAGA background of the group founders, beyond the fact that I know it’s there and I’m not well-versed enough to get into it. But we need to continue criticising and exposing the global chokehold they have on the process, where they masquerade it as an earned system by people lining up days in advance (which is unhinged), but in reality, just give the first entry spots to their inner circle every time.

One person wrote: “Imagine a venue like a catering hall. You rent it out. That’s what arenas are for tours, they are rental facilities and the tour operator handles everything that is not part of the arena’s responsibilities like basic security, concessions, etc. if a tour comes in and says this is how we run our GA, the arena says okay, we’ll have security aware of it.”
