Bruce Springsteen fans believe The Boss will add a rare song to his setlist should the weather change.
Fans took to the r/BruceSpringsteen subreddit to ask whether or not the forecast of rain would change the show start times. Springsteen will take to the stage later today (May 27) for a performance at the National Park in Washington, D.C., just three miles away from President Donald Trump and the White House. But fans were left wondering whether the rain would affect the performance, given the showers are set to start at 6pm and end at 11pm. The attendee asked: “I just checked the weather for the DC show this Wednesday night and it is supposed to rain from 6pm to 11pm. Does the show continue in the rain? If it’s bad enough, will it be postponed? This is only my second show in DC, and I have no idea what to expect with the weather.”
Other gig-goers believe the show will not be cancelled, and it may see a rare performance from Springsteen. One user speculated: “Good news is you might get to hear him play Who’ll Stop the Rain by Creedence Clearwater Revival.” Another added: “He opened with it at the birthday show! Was in the pit, and they made us go into the catacombs of Met Life. Finally, when the show started, he said something along the lines of, ‘I think I invited 50,000 to my birthday party.'”
Others attending the Washington show tonight confirmed that it would take much more than rain to stop The Boss and The E Street Band from performing. One fan wrote: “They play even in heavy rain. The only thing that will stop the show is a severe weather event like thunderstorms.” Another added: “There will never be more rain than Sunderland 2024! Everything will be fine.”
The heavens did open for the Sunderland 2024 show. A five-star review of Springsteen and The E Street Band’s performance at the Stadium of Light reads: “You cannot beat The E Street Band. Steven Van Zandt and company will beat you into place with an instrumental fury which pops on every song. Fearsome work from an exemplary collection of musicians. They put it all on the line yet have no reason to. Springsteen and the band are so clearly driven by passion.
“Walking home through drenched streets, the chatter is all the same. ‘That was his last gig.’ ‘Didn’t they play well?’ What becomes of Springsteen and The E Street Band after this tour is of no concern to us. Their Sunderland performance rounds off another successful period for one of the finest musicians still going. Exemplary musicians who leave their message clear on stage. If you are to do something, anything, do it with the energy and honesty the band has for these songs. Shockingly moving and expectedly brilliant work from The Boss, whose heavy set of hits and deep cuts provides a nice blur for those hardened, soaked fans.”
