My Chemical Romance may be on for their first album in 16 years, should frontman Gerard Way be believed. The band’s frontman teased new material could be in the works at a recent show on the US tour. My Chemical Romance has not released an album since 2010’s Danger Days. Since their reunion in 2019, the band has released just one song, 2022’s The Foundations of Decay. My Chemical Romance is currently touring The Black Parade in full.
Way, during a performance at the Alamodome in San Antonio last night (September 12), suggested that the band could start working on new material. There has been no suggestion of new material outside of The Foundations of Decay until recently. Way, according to Paste Magazine, said: “We should probably make more songs. [The Foundations of] Decay was really awesome when we kept doing it.
“And then, you know, stuff happens, life happens. But just know that we kind of always wanted to make another record, so we hope to. Because you guys honestly kept us alive for so long that you guys deserve another record.”
The band has been performing The Black Parade in full, along with deep cuts and B-sides from their discography. A full setlist from the San Antonio show where Way teased a new album can be found below.

In a five-star review of My Chemical Romance’s second of three nights at Wembley Stadium, Cult Following hailed the longevity of The Black Parade and the quality of the band’s deep cuts. It reads: “It’s an all-encompassing second half which digs through the band’s back catalogue. It’s proof enough that some bands can survive on quality material that dedicated fans will hardly ever tire of hearing.
“Even those passive listeners who know the words to one or two, and are there for the theatrics, that’ll be enough to get you through a masterclass performance. A few minor microphone issues in the second half can be forgiven for a show where the band is giving it their all. Few can play as big a show as this and still detail their deep cuts for an 80,000-strong crowd.”
Whether a new album from My Chemical Romance materialises is yet to be seen, but the band is gearing up to celebrate 20 years of The Black Parade. A limited run of signed copies of the cassette, CD, and vinyl were put up for pre-order on the group’s website.
