The Rolling Stones fans list their favourite ‘underrated’ songs – and most are from Tattoo You

The Rolling Stones fans are sharing their favourite “underrated” songs from the band, with most suggestions coming from their 1981 album, Tattoo You.

Fans of the band heaped praise on their 1981 effort, which followed their perceived return to form on Steel Wheels. Recent revisits to their lesser-known works has seen an improved perception of The ‘Stones post-Let it Bleed efforts. One user asked The Rolling Stones’ subreddit: “What’s a song you’ve underrated until recently and are listening to a lot now? Mine would be She Said Yeah and I Got The Blues. I neve really liked I Got The Blues all that much but I’ve rediscovered it and now I love it.”

Other fans weighed in with their favourite songs from the band, with some sharing their love for Tattoo You tracks. One user wrote: “Worried About You and Tops. At first I never was huge on these but after another listen I love them, especially Tops, such a great song.”

The original poster replied: “All of Tattoo You is amazing I really need to listen to that album more.” Other users agreed Tattoo You had plenty of hidden tracks which were well worth a listen. One wrote: “Agreed, I remember when I first listened to the album I thought that each song sounded similar in the way the lyrics on most tracks were very repetitive.”

“I pushed it to the side, minus Start Me Up, Worried About You and Heaven. The album did a 180 for me though and now Slave, Tops and No Use in Crying are heavy in the rotation.” Another user suggested Heaven from the same album, adding: “Heaven from Tattoo You. Used to skip over it back in the day (pretty much all the 80s & 90s & Noughties) now I love the tune.”

Another album frequently mentioned in the thread was The Rolling Stones’ 1978 effort, Some Girls. One user who mentioned Far Away Eyes prompted others to head back into The ‘Stones discography for another go of their underrated album.

They wrote: “I went back and listened to that after people here raved. When it came out, it just sounded snarky, but now I think there’s affectionate amusement and I love it.” Another user wrote: “Can’t think of one off the top of my head. But dozens of Stones songs were uninteresting to me at first, and then put massive hooks in me somehow.”

It comes as fans of The Rolling Stones share memories of a tour cited as the best-ever in the band’s history.
