Bob Dylan has dropped the Greatest Hits Vol. II track I Shall Be Released from his set just days after playing it for the first time in 18 years.
Dylan, 85, has chopped and changed his setlist several times on the Summer 2026 tour and last night in Berkeley, California, was no different. His performance at the William Randolph Hearst Greek Theatre saw the veteran performer play the likes of All Along the Watchtower and Soon After Midnight. Selections from his latest studio album, Rough and Rowdy Ways, were also featured in the set. Dylan has maintained a handful of additions to his set, with Time Out of Mind track, Tryin’ to Get to Heaven, remaining on the setlist.

Dylan has performed I Shall Be Released twice so far on the Summer 2026 tour, making it the first time he has performed the song in nearly 20 years. When I Paint My Masterpiece was also given a unique instrumental twist and was performed in the style of Puttin’ on the Ritz. The arrangement change was noted by Setlist.FM users, who noted this is the second time since 2019 that Dylan has performed Tryin’ to Get to Heaven.
Fans are hoping Dylan keeps Tryin’ to Get to Heaven in his setlist for the remainder of the tour. Attendees took to the r/BobDylan subreddit and shared their hopes. One wrote: “Man, I’d be in heaven if that made the Raleigh show. It was the first Dylan song that I could approach on my own terms without anyone telling me what to think about it or how Important it was. I friggin love it to this day.”
Another added: “One of my absolute favourite Dylan songs. Hope he features it in more sets.” Dylan also performed The Basement Tapes bootleg track Baby, Won’t You Be My Baby, for the first time on this tour. The surprise inclusion had fans hoping for further deep cuts on the Summer 2026 tour, which has so far featured I Shall Be Released and Tryin’ to Get to Heaven. Under the Red Sky has also featured occasionally.
