Performances of all-time great songs are not as frequent as Bob Dylan‘s fans would want, but he gave them a taste of magic on this day in 1975.
The veteran songwriter’s Rolling Thunder Revue is a now-legendary experience, and Dylan wouldn’t disappoint during his show at the Plymouth Memorial Hall. It marked his second of two shows there, the previous night seeing the live debut of nine songs including Desire tracks, I Shall Be Released, and a Johnny Ace cover that maintained its place in this setlist. The 16-song set featured plenty of Desire songs too but a performance of Mama, You Been on My Mind too. It marked the first time Dylan had performed the song since 1965.
With a full decade between the two performances, Dylan also featured a handful of other rarities that hadn’t featured in his setlist for a logn while. The Times They Are A-Changin’ appeared once more, following its return to the stage at the previous Plymouth Memorial Hall show. A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall also made its return to the stage in 1975, and maintained its spot in the setlist for this show.

This show would be the first time Dylan had performed I Don’t Believe You (She Acts Like We Never Have Met) in 1975, with the song sticking around for six shows in total. It wouldn’t appear in 1976, but it featured in 102 performances Dylan gave in 1978. It then dropped from his setlist and would rarely feature until a fairly consistent resurgence at the start of the Never-Ending Tour. Dylan last performed the song in 2013.
Just Like a Woman, the Blonde on Blonde classic, would feature fairly consistently until Dylan suddenly dropped the song from his set after 2010. He has performed the song 831 times, with 30 of those performances found in 1975.
Just a day before this performance, Dylan would play a set featuring songs that would never be performed again after 1976. A full setlist for the October 30 show at the Plymouth Memorial Hall can be found below.
