Yard Act frontman announces charity zine set for December release

James Smith, frontman of post-punk band Yard Act, has confirmed he will release a zine to raise money for charity.

The Dream Job and The Overload hitmaker announced the zine would feature a compilation of sketches he had drawn while touring Europe and the UK with Yard Act. Announcing the zine on his Instagram art account, MrMuckyBrushes, Smith said it will be sent to print following the band’s London date and would be with those who pre-ordered it, hopefully, in time for Christmas. Money made from the zine will be donated to PAFRAS, a Leeds-based charity aiding asylum seekers. The 32-page zine is currently on sale for £15, and is expected to ship out around December 5.

A statement from Smith reads: “Hello! I am compiling all sketches from every city on the @yardactband European and UK tour into a zine for Christmas. 100% of the money is going to @pafras_leeds – a Leeds based charity who assist and support asylum seekers here across the board with anything they need.

“The pre-order is up on the Yard Act Bandcamp (link in bio) and as it is bandcamp friday, if you preorder this weekend they won’t take a cut, which means more money for PAFRAS. It will be sent to print as soon as I complete the London sketch on 26th November, and with any luck should be printed and shipped in time for XMAS, what a gift for your Yard Act loving cousin/ very cultured granny.

“As i didn’t have time to sketch in Prague and Milan, i have included 2 new sketches of Franz Kafka and Umberto Eco to accommodate those fine cities and keep the theme consistent.

“If you can, please reshare this – for the sake of my own ego i try not to dabble too hard in algorithmic self promotion, but I would like to raise as much money as i can for Pafras ideally so the further it travels the better. Many thanks and much love.”

The zine can be pre-ordered from Yard Act’s Bandcamp page. The band, which released their third studio album You’re Gonna Need a Little Music earlier this year, will perform shows in Newcastle, London, and Glasgow later this month. The band performed an 18-song setlist at their first of two homecoming shows at the O2 Academy in Leeds. The band will perform a second show at the O2 Academy tonight (November 7).
