Paul McCartney fans hope the veteran musician will play a one-off show in London to tie in with a special celebration.
The Beatles member and Wings frontman is rumoured to be taking to the stage later this year, though fans have eyed up a particular date for 2027. Whether McCartney returns to the stage in 2026 or 2027 is yet to be seen, though some hope he brings The Boys of Dungeon Lane to the stage after its release later this month. Fans flooded the r/PaulMcCartney subreddit to share their thoughts on whether the legendary performer will return to Abbey Road Studios and perform for the opening of a Beatles museum. A fan asked: “What are the odds of Paul playing on the rooftop at 3 Savile Row? For the opening of the museum in 2027, who knows? Just a thought but a girl can (and does) dream.”
One fan replied: “It’d be pretty cool, but I suspect that the rooftop gig represents something approaching sacred, if that’s the right word, for Paul personally and in the Beatles story. It was the last time they ever played live together, and I should imagine there’s something rather bittersweet about treading that ground again, let alone playing there.
“It’s not like performing in the Cavern again, which was something they did hundreds of times and isn’t even the original building anyway. I don’t claim to know Paul’s mind, but I suspect playing the rooftop again with two of them gone and Ringo most likely not taking part just wouldn’t feel right for him. I have no doubt whatsoever that he’ll visit and may pose for photos up there. But performing? A bridge too far.”
Another added: “I’m sure there’ll be something to mark the opening, if not Paul, then maybe a Beatles tribute band will play, to go along with the inevitable TV promotional coverage, The One Show etc.”
A third shared: “Depending on what they do with that space on the roof. Paul playing live in 2026 is a completely different world than 1969. It would need to be a safe and well-prepared live stage.”
Plans for an official destination for Beatles fans in London were confirmed earlier this week, with an announcement from Apple Corps confirming a seven-floor, ticketed experience showcasing the band’s historic performance.
Apple Corps’ CEO Tom Greene said: “We’re thrilled to bring Apple Corps back to its spiritual home and give The Beatles fans something truly special. Every single day, fans are taking pictures of the outside of 3 Savile Row – but next year they can go in and explore all seven floors of the iconic building, including the rooftop where even the railings remain the same from that famous day in 1969.”
Paul McCartney added: “It was such a trip to get back to 3 Savile Row recently and have a look around. There are so many special memories within the walls, not to mention the rooftop. The team have put together some really impressive plans, and I’m excited for people to see it when it’s ready.”
