Fontaines D.C. ‘ready to headline’ Glastonbury Festival according to fans: ‘Surely has to be their time’

Fontaines D.C. could be on for a very successful 2027 if fans are right about their Glastonbury Festival predictions. The Grian Chatten-fronted band could find themselves headlining the festival next year. Fontaines D.C. will release their new album, Dopamine Chamber, in October, and fans believe that gives them enough time to tour the album in preparation for a headline set at Worthy Farm.

Glastonbury Festival will return in 2027 but the rumour mill is already in operation as fans try and figure out which big names could be headlining the festival. While some acts like Oasis have ruled themselves out, and others like Madonna have been ruled out by the festival organisers, there’s a question mark hanging over whether the Jackie Down the Line hitmakers have what it takes to headline.

Fontaines D.C. has performed at Glastonbury Festival a total of three times but are yet to headline it. Those talking about the band on the r/Glastonbury_Festival subreddit believe next year could be the perfect time for the band to make their headline debut. One fan wrote: “Fontaines D.C. are ready! Fontaines are so ready to headline the Friday night on the Pyramid next year.

“They would put on such an amazing show with so many bangers: I Love You, Jackie Down The Line, Boys In The Better Land, Starburster, Favourite. And they have got their new album coming out this year and then a UK & Europe Arena tour. They would put on such an amazing show. Like they have just done at Reading last night.”

Another agreed, adding: “They’ve got Other Stage headliners written all over them for next year.” A third shared: “Biggest band from these islands since Arctic Monkeys. Surely has to be their time.” Not everyone believes the band are ready for the spotlight of such a high-profile show, however, as some say another album release cycle would give them a bit more material to work with.

One fan wrote: “Love Fontaines but just can’t help feeling like another album and another go around the block wouldn’t hurt. The Reading show looked fairly decent just lacks some kind of bite that I can’t put my finger on. The variety of big-hitting tunes isn’t an issue; endless festival-ready songs!”

Another added: “They’re brilliant, but headlining the Pyramid Stage is a whole other level. Don’t think they have the cultural currency for that to feel earned just yet. They could definitely sub-headline though or, more appropriately, headline the other stage.” A third shared: “

Fontaines D.C. are already playing a show on the weekend Glastonbury Festival usually falls on, with a huge Slane Castle show in the calendar for June 26. It is possible that the band could travel to Glastonbury Festival for a performance, as Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts did after their performance at Malahide Castle in 2025.
