Emily Blunt’s addition to the Hollywood Walk of Fame had movie fans asking how the streets of Los Angeles keep up with so many stars.
Members of the public congratulated the A Quiet Place and The Devil Wears Prada star on the unveiling of her star on the Walk of Fame. Blunt, along with The Devil Wears Prada co-star Stanley Tucci, was awarded a spot on the acclaimed street during an unveiling ceremony yesterday (April 30). A statement from the official Hollywood Walk of Fame reads: “Actors Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci were honoured with the 2,841st and 2,842nd stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, April 30 at 11:30am PT at 6930 Hollywood Boulevard.
“Blunt and Tucci received their stars in the category of Motion Pictures. Joining emcee Ellen K were Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., and Meryl Streep.
“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce administers the legendary Walk of Fame for the City of Los Angeles and has proudly hosted the globally iconic star ceremonies for decades. Millions of people from around the world have visited this cultural landmark since 1960.”
While the public says both stars are richly deserved dedications to the two performers, some were left curious as to how there is still space left for so many performers.
One person asked: “Do they just keep extending the walk longer with new stars? Or do they replace old stars with new ones? Genuinely curious.” Other X users had their say on what they believe is the reason for such additions to the Los Angeles streets.
One wrote: “They’re spaced out on large sidewalks along not just Hollywood Blvd but adjoining streets, there is essentially no possibility of running out of space. Los Angeles is, not to put too fine a point on it, quite big.”
Another added: “If you’ve ever been there, there’s at least a hundred, if not more, blank stars on the walk currently, and the people who do have stars have to pay to keep them, so I imagine if someone’s estate stops paying, that star might get replaced.”
A third wrote: “They add 30-35 stars per year. There is room for many, many, many thousands. The Walk of Fame spans about 1.7 miles. (But they’ve been doing a lot of ceremonies in recent years in 2 specific areas that might start getting crowded.)”
Those who had been to the Walk of Fame recently claimed there were empty stars in the streets for future Walk of Fame honourees. One person wrote: “As someone who went recently, they have a lot of stars without names, so when they give someone new a star, they just put it in one of the ones in the back.”
Another added: “Apparently the sidewalk they put the stars in is like over a mile long so I think they still have enough space for the time being.”
A third wrote: “The sidewalks are just bigger than most people think. If you look at the birds-eye view of the sidewalk, you can see that there is plenty of space for new stars.”
Recent additions to the Hollywood Walk of Fame include Noah Wyle, Brandy, and Gabriel Iglesias. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is reportedly 1.3miles long, from Gower Street to La Brea Avenue, and a further 0.4miles along Vine Street.
