Radiohead’s upcoming tour has fans thrilled, and they’re already guessing which songs may be a part of the tour.
While some fans are expecting nothing but the hits, others believe there could be “a tour of deep cuts” about to happen. The group will perform twenty shows over November and December, their first since 2018. Radiohead fans took to the r/Radiohead subreddit to share their thoughts on what the band may play at these upcoming shows. While nothing is certain until the shows actually happen, the Thom Yorke-fronted group has plenty of songs to pick from for their European tour. Fans believe if there is no new music to come from the shows, then it’ll be a collection of deeper cuts from their lesser-known albums.
One fan wrote: “Opinion: if we don’t get new music, then this will be a tour of deep cuts. What do you think? Keeping with their theme of trudging forward and keeping things fresh. If there is no new music, I think we will see a lot of deep/deeper cuts. A generic tour of the expected ‘hits’ or set list regulars would be a bit vanilla for their style.”
Fans believe the upcoming show will have a heavy focus on Hail to the Thief. The band’s 2003 release was adapted by Yorke to Hamlet earlier this year, and a live album of performances was also released. One fna wrote: “It will feature Hail to the Thief heavily I presume.”
Another added: “Feel this as well. Not only because of the latest release, but given our current times, its lyrics are pertinent.” Others believe the band will be celebrating The Bends more than any other album in their discography.
One person wrote: “I think they will go hard on celebrating The Bends. I mean, why not give it a modern overhaul? They have been doing it with similar era music before, like Talk Show Host. I think every gig will be The Bends entire album, sandwiched by other hits and deep cuts with room for one or two new tracks.”
Another suggested this tour could be the starting point for new songs, rather than a place to hear them. The fan wrote: “Maybe this tour will be used to record for a future live album? It could be the case if there’s no new album to promote and tracks are being played from across the band’s history?
“REM did this a couple of times towards the end of their career for example (in addition to so many other bands to have done this – putting out live albums when little else to release).”
Colin Greenwood has since told Adam Buxton there are seventy songs ready to go for the band, prompting some to believe it will be a different set every night, featuring all of the rehearsed songs. A fan wrote: “Sounds like they have up to 70 tunes good to go. I’m guessing they play all 70 over the 4 nights.”
