U2 fans share hopes for new album as Bono and band spotted filming new music video

U2 fans shared their delight at seeing the group back together, recording a new music video for what could be the lead single of their new album.

Speculation is rife on the r/U2Band subreddit, with many believing a recent clip released by the band is to tee up a new album. It would mark the band’s first studio album release since 2023’s Songs of Surrender. Other fans believe the song may be tied to the upcoming World Cup rather than a song from the rumoured new album. U2 has released two EPs of new material this year, with guitarist The Edge confirming the band was back in the studio and working on new material.

Larry Mullin Jr. said of the clip: “It’s a little NGO with a big kick for kids with all of the talent and none of the access. Our band are proud supporters.” The release comes in the same week that Mexico City will host the 2026 Street Child World Cup, with the tournament set to take place between May 6 and May 14.

A fan took to the U2 forum and shared the new snippet of the song, reportedly called Street of Dreams. Another fan noted that the song sounds “catchy”, while a third was less impressed, saying it sounded like “one of the dozen songs made for a sports event opening ceremony.”

Others believe it is strange for the band to have released a snippet of the song, rather than the song itself. One wrote: “I find it strange releasing a snippet of the video shoot before the actual single, they should’ve just dropped the full single too. Guess it can’t be far away though.”

Another added: “Seems like a mix of Get Out of Your Own Way and Resurrection Song.” A third wrote: “This sounds like a clip recorded from a phone. I’m not going to judge this from a clip recorded with a phone.”

Some fans believe the song is set to be used as part of the World Cup celebrations later this year. One person wrote: “I’ll reserve full judgment on the song ’til it’s released. Initial impression is yep very World Cuppy. Ha. Not necessarily the ‘serious’ music I love to hear from them…but what does the rest hold?

“I agree that Easter Lily is a promising start for the next release. But this seems to lean a more familiar direction than many of us would prefer. Hmm.”

Another disagreed, suggesting the song would feature on the upcoming, unannounced album. They wrote: “2026 Street Child World Cup this week in Mexico. Larry makes a mention in the media release, the band’s been supporting the NGO for a while now. But this song is definitely a single for the new album, per the band’s website.”

A third added: “I really hope this is just a single for the World Cup and not first one off the new record. Didn’t Bruce just put out Streets of Minneapolis? Come on, Boys! I’m holding my breath for a mind-blowing album. I’d love one more EP of Songs of Ascent before then too. Fingers are crossed and stressed, ready to break. Don’t let us down. It’s been a long time and a lot of shit has happened. The EPs were a damn good start.”
