The Beatles fans decide on which Abbey Road song is the ‘worst’

Fans of The Beatles are figuring out which Abbey Road song is the “worst” of the bunch.

The Fab Four’s penultimate album (followed by Let it Be) is filled with some of their very best works but one track, according to those using The Beatles’ subreddit group, must stand out as the more skippable of the tracklist. With all-time great songs like SomethingHere Comes the Sun and Maxwell’s Silver Hammer featuring before the staggering medley featuring Golden Slumbers and The End, it would be hard to pinpoint one track as the worst of all. But fans have tried their best to figure out which one it is. A post to the subreddit asks: “Worst song on Abbey Road?”

The original poster adds: “Many people consider Abbey Road to be the best Beatles album, so I’m wondering, in a collection of some of the greatest pieces of music ever written, what do you think is the worst song on Abbey Road? Or, for lack of a better term, the weakest?”

Fans were split on what they could call the worst track from Abbey Road, with one writing: “I used to really, really dislike Sun King but its grown on me over the years. That being said its still my least fave on the album probably.” Another replied: “Yeah, it’s not that it’s a bad song but when you compare it to everything else I would say it’s my least favourite.”

Others are suggesting the song which was not even meant to be on the album is the weakest of the bunch. Medley snippet Her Majesty was singled out by some fans, with one writing: “Honestly, I have no clue what I would pick. It’s my all-time favourite album, and all the songs have been on rotation at one point or another. Maybe Her Majesty? But I still love how the album ends with that one.”

One user suggested it is merely a “trick question” and that every song featured on Abbey Road is perfection. They wrote: “Ha! This is a trick question. There is no ‘worst song’ on Abbey Road.” Another added: “This is one of those albums where there is not a worst song. There aren’t too many albums like that, but this is one.”

Though it was not mentioned in any of the top-rated comments, some fans went on not to name the worst but to defend an often disliked track, Maxwell’s Silver Hammer. One fan wrote: “I’ll tell you, I have even come to appreciate Maxwell’s Silver Hammer.”

Another added: “I’ve always liked it. Never understood why people didn’t, I think it’s more to do with the other Beatles not liking it so people didn’t like it.” A third replied: “I’m baffled about how people still claim that it is the worst music of the album. It’s a great sing-along.”

  1. Looking back over 56 years of listening to it since it’s release in 1969 it’s always been pretty obvious what was the only track that stood out like a sore thumb by a mile and would have been better off on the b-side of “Something” or “Let it Be” singles is Maxwells silver hammer… a real fly in the ointment when listening to the whole album particularly on the vinyl record.. same as Yellow Submarine on Revolver 🤢🤢
