Fans of the legendary rock band The Rolling Stones are split on a recently released video to the group’s latest single, In the Stars.
The Mick Jagger-fronted group launched their latest single, In the Stars, earlier this week. It comes after weeks of speculation behind who The Cockroaches were, with the band eventually revealed to be a different name for The Rolling Stones. The Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood-featuring group used the moniker in the late 1970s when promoting Black and Blue. A post to the r/RollingStones subreddit has seen fans share their thoughts on the music video, with some left uncomfortable by the band’s de-aged presence for the latest song.
One fan wrote: “It’s a little Uncanny Valley, but fuck it — it’s a lot of fun! I like the little callbacks they snuck in. Spot them if you can.” Another agreed with the quality of the video, adding: “I like it. It’s like they took the idea of the “live” billboards from the Angry video and cranked it up. Wood looked the best out of the three Stones, in my opinion. The only complaint is that I wish the three actual Stones could have shown up too.”
A third shared that they enjoyed the video but were sad to see drummer Charlie Watts omitted, considering the volume of easter eggs planted in the video. They wrote: “I loved the video although not sure it needed to have so many extras. And I know Charlie isn’t on the song, but why couldn’t they put young him in as the main drummer, considering it’s a throwback to the young band. Did we really need 100 random people drumming?”
Another agreed, adding: “I typically don’t like AI de-again but found myself enjoying this. First time I’ve watched a full music video in a while, especially since it’s just a fun music video and they’re still surrounded by actual people.”
Some fans believe the artificial intelligence allegedly used in the video is no good. One wrote: “I think it’s ghoulish for them to de-age themselves for a music video.”
Another agreed, adding: “What is that slop? I like the song but man that video is just terrible.” A third shared: “What in the fresh AI hell is this.”
In the Stars, which released earlier this week, recieved glowing praise in a review from Cult Following. In a five-star review of the song, the band were praised for writing a song that “gets better on every listen. On par with Rough and Twisted, a song that fans will no doubt want to get their hands on as soon as they can.
“Repeating the title of the track to close out the song, Richards flows through with some manic guitar playing before Wood brings about a focused, final riff, it sounds both like classic material from The Rolling Stones but a step towards a whole new sense of being for the band. They’re always an electric time, but that shock is still exciting.”
