The Rolling Stones fans claim Foreign Tongues is band’s best album cover since 1970s hit

Fans of the legendary rock group The Rolling Stones believe the band has released their best album cover since the 1970s.

A post to the r/RollingStones subreddit saw Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood praised for their upcoming album. It marks the twenty-sixth studio album from the band, and the second release after the death of drummer Charlie Watts. Foreign Tongues, which will release on July 10, 2026, was hailed by fans as being the best album cover since, presumably, Some Girls. The band’s 1978 album featured The Rolling Stones on the front cover, as does Foreign Tongues. A post to the forum had one fan claim it’s their best album cover in decades.

They wrote: “The best, and perhaps first good, Stones album cover since 1978. Wild.” Other fans were split on whether this is true or not. One person suggested: “It stands out and we’re all talking about it. That’s what it wants! It needs to stand out! Which it does!”

Another added: “I love it, but I also think Voodoo Lounge is underrated. Certainly their best since that, by a mile though.” A third noted: “Almost looks like a MAD Magazine cover.”

Other fans of the band have suggested there are some strong album covers between Some Girls and Foreign Tongues. One person wrote: “I thought that the A Bigger Bang cover was pretty good too.” A second person added: “Tattoo You was a fantastic cover. Very striking and recognisable.”

A third shared: “Forgot about that one, in fact Tattoo You, Emotional Rescue and Undercover were all very good early ’80s designs! Steel Wheels was a good ‘branding’ effort too. Now, Hackney Diamonds, on the other hand, could’ve used a bit more effort, glad they stepped up for this new one!”

A statement released to the band’s mailing list reads: “Foreign Tongues, the incredibly vibrant 14-track new album from the Rolling Stones, follows less than three years after the band’s universally acclaimed, Grammy Award-winning Hackney Diamonds, which topped charts worldwide and achieved multi-platinum success.

“Preceded by the upbeat and infectious lead single In The Stars, Foreign Tongues was brought to life in under a month at Metropolis Studios in West London, with Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood reuniting with Grammy-winning producer Andrew Watt. The result is a dynamic and forward-looking record that captures the band’s unmistakable sound while pushing into new sonic and lyrical territory, further cementing their unparalleled legacy.

“The album features standout performances from Jagger, Richards and Wood, alongside their core collaborators including Darryl Jones, Matt Clifford and Steve Jordan. It also includes a special appearance from Charlie Watts, captured during one of his final recording sessions before his passing in 2021.

“Additional contributions come from an impressive line-up of guest artists, including Steve Winwood, Paul McCartney, Robert Smith (The Cure), and Chad Smith of The Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
