A performance from legendary rock band The Rolling Stones has been praised by fans, who say it is the “one show” they wish they could attend.
The Mick Jagger-fronted group have inspired many all-time great moments on stage and in the studio, but this particular performance has received acclaim from those who were there, and those who wish they could have been. A gig in the mid-1990s saw The Rolling Stones play a series of covers, give Keith Richards a chance on lead vocals, and provide a live debut of a song which would never appear in their set again. Their performance of Beast of Burden, the fifth song in a twenty-three-strong setlist, has been hailed by fans as the definitive Rolling Stones performance. In a YouTube upload of the song being performed for their Stripped album, fans took the chance to praise the show and share how they wished they could have been there.
One fan wrote: “If I could pick one Rolling Stones concert I would have seen, then it would definitely be this one.” The live performance from Paradiso in Amsterdam has gone down in The Rolling Stones’ history as one of their most-loved sets.
Their two shows in Amsterdam are a dream come true for seasoned fans of The Rolling Stones, with the band performing forty-three songs across two nights. A handful of the songs featured in their set had not been performed since the late 1970s. One song from the band’s first night at Paradiso, The Spider and the Fly, had not been played since 1965. The show would mark the first performance of Connection since 1967, an appearance of Respectable, the first since 1979, and Rip This Joint, which the band had last performed in 1977. The band has not played Jump on Top of Me live since its debut at the Paradiso. It would also be their penultimate performance of Down in the Bottom, with the Muddy Waters cover last played during a show at the Brixton Academy in London, England.
