What Neil Young played at first Love Earth show of 2025 ahead of Glastonbury and BST Hyde Park performances

The first show of the Love Earth tour for Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts kicked off in Dalhalla, Sweden, last night (June 18).

Young, the veteran musician behind hits like Harvest, Rockin’ in the Free World, and Comes a Time, took to the stage for the first show of his tour promoting new album, Talkin’ to the Trees. The tour will take Young across Europe, including a headline slot on Glastonbury‘s Pyramid Stage and a show at BST Hyde Park alongside Van Morrison and Cat Stevens. Young performed classic tracks from his time with Crazy Horse, as well as classic songs from the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young discography in a fifteen-song show to kick off the tour. Fans will be delighted to see some of the hits included in the show, including a song which Young has not played live since 2000.

A few songs were performed solo by Young, with the rest of the tracks, which include Like a Hurricane, Name of Love, and Old Man, were performed with new band, Crazy Horse. The group featured on the recently released Talkin’ to the Trees album, which received a three-star rating from Cult Following. Our review of the album reads: “Young comments on the crumbling world around him, suggests big change is coming, but finds himself rattling on without a thought for how this change may come around.

The first show of the Love Earth tour and release of Talkin’ to the Trees marks an ongoing busy year for Young. He released both the archival album Oceanside Countryside and the documentary soundtrack, Coastal, earlier this year. Along with this came a documentary, Coastal, directed by Daryl Hannah.

Earlier this month, Young invited President Donald Trump to a show of his choosing in the United States. A Love Earth tour of the US is set to take place later this year.

Young wrote: “Our country and our way of life, that which our fathers and theirs fought for, is now threatened by our government. This is not what we voted for. This is our new reality. Our government is out of control, not standing for us. You can stand up for American values this summer, for our children and theirs.

“When I tour the USA this summer, if there is not martial law by then which would make it impossible, let’s all come together and stand for American values. We will not be doing a political show. We will be playing the music we love for all of us to enjoy together. President Trump, you’re invited. Come and hear our music just as you did for decades.

“Many other great musicians will be in our country this summer, there for you, playing your favourite music. We are proud to be who we are, and must never let our government forget it. Thanks, Neil.”
