Pink Floyd fans believe guitarist David Gilmour could be set to release more solo material.
New photos of the legendary instrumentalist in the studio were shared to the r/DavidGilmour subreddit, with commenters suggesting Gilmour could share a new release this year. It comes just one year after the release of Luck and Strange, Gilmour’s first studio album since 2015. Whether he is to release new material is yet to be seen, but speculation is rife in the Pink Floyd community, with some hoping for further tour dates to be announced. A post to the subreddit saw one user ask: “David will have a new album this year? New tour in 2025?
“There is so many new photos of Gilmour in Studio and playing with Guy Pratt, it seems we will have one more album and one more tour. That might be the last one. Can you imagine? We can just hope for it. What songs will be in the set list this time?”
Other users believe new material could be on the way and are hopeful an announcement is made soon. One wrote: “I suspect we’re seeing pictures of studio work in support of a live album from the Luck & Strange Tour. Live albums often include studio overdubs for certain parts.
“David put out (amazing) live albums after On an Island and again after Rattle That Lock. A new live album would fit the pattern. Also, for someone who spreads out studio albums once per decade, it seems unlikely we get two studio albums in two consecutive years.”
Another user was sceptical of Gilmour getting back to work so soon after touring, but a clip of the Pink Floyd member playing new material in the studio has sparked hopes. One user wrote: “I was originally sceptical that he would immediately get back to work after the tour, but video and pictures show that he’s clearly recording again with the producer and the core of the band (Ben, Guy, Rob and Adam).
“2025 is probably a stretch, but perhaps early 2026 for an album and a possible limited summer tour (probably the same cities and venues as the L/S tour). If he tours, I would guess a similar setlist, except only a couple of songs off of Luck and Strange to make room for songs off the album he is currently recording. Maybe a couple tweaks (a different song off The Division Bell, Shine On, etc) but at least 50% similar to the last tour.”
Other fans are speculating on when Gilmour could hit the road with his new album, as some believe 2025 is far too early for another batch of new material. One user suggested: “If he tours, it will be after a new album, so I’d say late 2026 at the absolute earliest. Probably be an even more limited number of shows than his Luck and Strange tour.”
Another wrote: “If another tour was to happen, I’d be happy with WHATEVER David played. However, if I had MY way, I’d love to hear stuff from his first two solo albums, along with ones from Obscured by Clouds. I’d just be happy to see him yet again, but I’d want him to be comfortable with whatever he does.”
A third added: “It’s certainly possible we might get one more tour from him. He was in very good form when I saw him in New York, so the energy and passion were definitely not gone. But I doubt it’d be this year. More likely 2026 around early to mid autumn.
“I’m a bit greedy so I’d love to hear the songs he didn’t play like last time like Astronomy Domine, Crazy Diamond or Run Like Hell (although who knows if he’d feel comfortable playing the latter). What would interest me though is if he went to classics like Fearless or Wot’s… Uh The Deal.”

Maybe he could just stay in one city, like artist in residence at The Sphere in Las Vegas for a few weeks. If he sold out LA and NYC (11/9 😀) and people came from all over the world for those shows, selling out in LV shouldn’t be difficult. It’s only 20K seats, utilizing SRO on the floor.
Just load in and out once, hang out at the pool in a luxury hotel, no flying about; someone needs to give his Mgr a call and tell him we have a petition with 10,000 names asking him to come ;)
