Bruce Springsteen fans are suggesting one hit track could return to the setlist for The Boss’ European tour.
Springsteen will perform a series of shows across Europe with The E Street Band, kicking off in Manchester, England, on May 14. A further two dates at Manchester will follow, before the tour is taken to France, and then back to England. Further dates in Germany, Czech Republic, Spain, and Italy, were also confirmed. Fans are now speculating on which songs could be added to the setlist following the conclusion of the U.S. tour. A post to the r/BruceSpringsteen forum saw one fan write: “Which songs do you think will make a comeback this year after a long time? I’ll go first. Jackson Cage, Roulette, Shackled and Drawn, Blinded by the Light, Cadillac Ranch.”
Though fans are hoping for some deep cuts and perhaps some songs from the upcoming Tracks II: The Lost Albums, others suggested a Born in the U.S.A. hit could be added to the setlist. One user suggested the title track to Springsteen’s 1984 album may appear in some dates for the European tour.
They wrote: “Considering he’s touring Europe. I once again suspect Born in the U.S.A. Maybe My Hometown is a statement about the current climate in the country.” Another user hoped Springsteen would bring a song from the Born in the U.S.A. session to the stage.
They wrote: “Follow That Dream. I would love to hear him sing it now that he has lived the experience and was such a huge Elvis fan. Bruce Springsteen said Follow That Dream was one of his favorite Elvis songs. He began performing a rearranged version of the song on the European leg of the River Tour in April 1981, at a much slower pace and with altered lyrics.
“This version appears in a bootleg vinyl recording of the same name. He further revised the lyrics, and recorded the song during the Born in the U.S.A. sessions, although it remained unreleased. He performed the song in July 1988 in Switzerland, and many times in succeeding decades.”
Another user has suggested Springsteen may avoid bringing Jackson’s Cage back to the stage as it is “too high” for him to sing. They wrote: “Jackson Cage would be too high for him to sing nowadays. The chorus’ at least.”
The original poster disagreed, and suggested the song could still be a potential choice from The E Street Band and The Boss. They wrote: “I don’t agree. Though it was nine years ago (woof…), I think the way he performed it during his 2016 The River tour and was pretty solid, even if the E-Street choir was doing some heavy lifting on the higher parts.
“But I think Bruce still has it in him, even more so when you factor in the current backup singers and their abilities!”
