Coyote vs. Acme will receive a release through Ketchup Entertainment next year after it was confirmed the company had bought the rights to the film.
Warner Bros. confirmed a sale was in motion a few weeks ago for the previously shelved Coyote vs. Acme. The film had been shelved initially due as the studio preferred to take the $30million tax write-off offer than release the movie. It, along with Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt, were shelved indefinitely. Ketchup Entertainment has since confirmed the Will Forte and John Cena-starring movie will release next year. The company had previously acquired the rights to The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie for the North American market.
A statement from Ketchup Entertainment CEO, Gareth West, confirmed the acquisition of Coyote vs. Acme and the company’s intention to release the film next year. His statement reads: “We’re thrilled to have made a deal with Warner Bros. Pictures to bring this film to audiences worldwide.
“Coyote vs. Acme is a perfect blend of nostalgia and modern storytelling, capturing the essence of the beloved Looney Tunes characters while introducing them to a new generation. We believe it will resonate with both longtime fans and newcomers alike.”
While the acquisition is not yet complete, it looks likely that a deal will be done, per Deadline Hollywood. The film would release in 2026 should it be sold to Ketchup Entertainment, they reported.
It comes after a widespread denouncement from movie industry insiders of Warner Bros. after the decision to shelve Coyote vs. Acme was announced. Star Will Forte confirmed he “fucking hates” the decision to shelve the film, and released a lengthy statement to Twitter at the time of the announcement.
He wrote at the time: “To the Cast and Crew of Coyote Vs Acme — I know that a lot of you haven’t gotten a chance to see our movie. And sadly, it’s looking like you never will. When I first heard that our movie was getting ‘deleted,’ I hadn’t seen it yet. So I was thinking what everyone else must have been thinking: this thing must be a hunk of junk. But then I saw it. And it’s incredible.
“Super funny throughout, visually stunning, sweet, sincere, and emotionally resonant in a very earned way. As the credits rolled, I just sat there thinking how lucky I was to be a part of something so special. That quickly turned to confusion and frustration. This was the movie they’re not going to release?
“Look, when it comes to Hollywood business stuff, I don’t know shit about shit. Even when a movie tests very well (like ours), there’s no guarantee that it’s gonna be a hit. And at the end of the day, the people who paid for this movie can obviously do whatever they want with it. It doesn’t mean I have to like it (I fucking hate it). Or agree with it.
“And it doesn’t mean that this movie is anything less than magnificent. You would be so proud of it — a movie that should be seen, but won’t. Please know that all the years and years of hard work, dedication and love that you put into this movie shows in every frame. That’s all folks.”
