Fans of legendary rock group The Rolling Stones have called a particular run of five albums the “greatest of all time”.
While the Mick Jagger-fronted group is in no short supply of strong work, fans believe The Stones put out a series of albums that “can’t be beat”. Their discography, which boasts efforts like Aftermath, Hackney Diamonds, and Steel Wheels, hit its peak, fans believe, in the late 1960s and early 1970s. A screenshot of the five albums in question was posted to the r/RollingStones subreddit, where fans shared their thoughts on the five albums in question. Beggars Banquet, Let it Bleed, Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out!, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street were all listed as the “greatest” run of albums from any artist.
Some fans have gone further and suggested even the albums preceding and following the five records noted in the original post are part of the “greatest” run of studio albums. One user wrote: “Surrounded by Goats Head Soup and Satanic Majesties, Between the Buttons, Got Live if you want it, and Aftermath as well. Honestly, I think every album they put out from 1964 to 1983 was great.”
Others agreed and suggested extending the run of great albums from The Stones all the way back to their debut. One wrote: “I’d start the run from their debut. Even though they had a lot of covers early on, the abrasive way they did many of them was the direction rock music would take. It’s essential for the understanding of the genre.”
Another added: “Out of Our Heads is some of the best work from that period and I’m not just talking about from The Rolling Stones. Even though most songs aren’t written by them, I would say that The Stones are probably thought to be the original writers to most who aren’t big fans. Aftermath would be much better had they put Out of Time and Paint it Black on both versions.”

A third wrote: “Yeah very true, The Beatles up there too. Barely any artists can stay great for that long.” But others have suggested The Beatles’ track record far exceeds the run of albums The Rolling Stones had released.
One user wrote: “The Beatles have the most impressive catalog of any artist ever. They wrote more great songs and produced more great albums than anyone, and by quite far. That’s why they’re The Beatles.
“No, they’re not as technically talented as the jazz greats, not as deep as the blues, but overall they are clearly the greatest. Among rock bands, there is no debate-not even from the Stones!” Bob Dylan was also cited as having one of the most impressive album release runs, with one fan suggesting his work from Bringing it All Back Home to Nashville Skyline was “incredible”.
