The Beatles fans decide on band’s most ‘underrated’ song

Fans of The Beatles have decided on the band’s most “underrated” songs.

There was plenty of choice for fans of the Fab Four but a few stick out more than most, with a post to the r/TheBeatles subreddit seeing fans share their favourite deep cuts and underrated gems. A fan who asked for the “most underrated Beatles song” suggested Dig a Pony, the track from their Let it Be release. Plenty more suggestions were found in the replies, with one tipped as one of The Beatles’ ten best recordings of all time. The song in question, If I Fell, appears to be blowing people’s minds.

One user wrote: “If I Fell is a top ten Beatles song for me and it blows my mind that such a simple and elegant song can stand up to the all time greatest hits of their discography. The Beatles’ greatest strength in my opinion is their ability to constantly come completely out of left field with a song that doesn’t sound like anything else they’ve ever done, throughout their entire career.”

Others suggested This Boy as a “fantastic” addition to their discography which does not receive as much love as it should. They wrote: “This Boy is fantastic. One of those early Beatles songs where you can tell there’s something more to them than other pop groups of the time.” Another added: “John held This Boy in high esteem, so I don’t know that the song is underrated, though you might hold it in even higher esteem.”

It’s All Too Much was also pointed out by fans, with one saying they will “not shut up until this song gets the attention it deserves.” Another added: “Production on that song is outstanding and ahead of its time, I love what they did with the drums and the horns in the middle part, just noticed it only has seven million Spotify streams for how good it is what the fuck.”

Other users suggested Old Brown Shoe, Here, There and Everywhere and Hey Bulldog. The Yellow Submarine track appeared to be a fan favourite, with one writing: “I feel like Hey Bulldog used to be underrated twenty-five years ago but that folks have a newfound appreciation for it. Maybe the tide will turn for some of the other songs listed here too.”

Rain was credited as a song “better than three-quarters of the songs that made it onto Revolver” too. One user added: “Yeah, it still perplexes me how unpopular this song is on Spotify. It has fourteen million streams, which is fewer than all album songs from Revolver onwards, if you exclude Yellow Submarine. Even most of the covers and deep cuts on the early albums have more streams.”

Another user added: “Great shout! She’s a Woman is underrated – what a vocal. Don’t Bother Me, Rocky Raccoon, and I’ll Get You don’t get a lot of love. Honestly so many album tracks would have been any other band’s biggest song. The Beatles are just otherworldly.

“I think they are the most underrated band of all time. They are seen as the best, but not enough. They blow anything else out of the water. Better than any band, sports team, director, actor, painter, anything…”
