Pink Floyd fans call David Gilmour’s Luck and Strange tour the ‘best concert ever’

Pink Floyd fans have been full of praise for guitarist David Gilmour’s recent tour and suggested he put on the “best concert ever”.

Posts to the Pink Floyd subreddit saw members of the public lucky enough to attend Gilmour’s recent tour share their experiences. One user has said Gilmour still “completely shreds” on guitar and while Animals and Echoes are snubbed in favour of solo works, there are still plenty of tracks for Pink Floyd fans to enjoy. The Luck and Strange tour comes as Gilmour played five sold-out dates at London’s Royal Albert Hall while also taking the tour across the globe. One user who attended the show in Los Angeles wrote: “Best concert ever. If you have the means to go, don’t hesitate.

“First and unfortunately my last Gilmour concert tonight in LA. I had high expectations and they were completely blown out of the water! If anyone is even contemplating going just do yourself a favour and go. The guy is 78 and just completely shreds in a way that my mind almost can’t comprehend. I have always liked Fat Old Sun but it wasn’t my favourite, the way he played it live with that solo was just incredible.

“Every original Pink Floyd song was honestly just so insane to witness live it was like complete eargasm at all times. I saw some people actually leaving before the encore of Comfortably Numb and couldn’t even fathom missing that absolute masterpiece. I don’t have any friends that like this kind of music so I’m just kind of rambling here in awe of what I witnessed. Anyone else see the show at Intuit Dome?”

Other fans replied to the original post, sharing their “greatest concert” moments, which also featured Gilmour. One user wrote: “I can’t imagine anyone leaving early. Especially since he is closing with Comfortably Numb. Like seriously, I would pay double just to see him play that one song.

“I have been going to concerts since the 70s and have seen 100s of acts in my lifetime. I saw The Division Bell show in Miami in 1994. It was, BY FAR, the greatest concert I have ever seen. I am going to his Hollywood Bowl concert on Tuesday and I can’t wait. I feel as giddy as a little kid on Christmas morning.”

Another added: “I saw him at Pompeii in 2016 and it was a very very special experience. Really sorry not to be seeing him on this tour but he’s been talking about another album, so I hope there’ll be another opportunity!”

One user has suggested the reason for the lack of Animals and Echoes songs in Gilmour’s solo works. They wrote: “Animals songs requires a very specific setup and he never played before too, Echoes he said he will never play again without Rick [Richard Wright].”

Another suggested: “He would never play anything from Animals. Too much Roger [Waters], and now he wants to play stuff he’s more connected to. And I totally respect him for not performing Echoes anymore due to Rick not being with us anymore.”

  1. The Pulse Show still the best show I ever saw. 30 years ago at Yankee Stadium. 17th row on the floor. Dark Side 1st note to the last. This show a close 2nd. 1st night at MSG. Scattered might be his best track ever. Gives me chills.
    Long live DG!
