Electric Light Orchestra fans remain hopeful of one more album before the ‘Over and Out’ tour ends

Electric Light Orchestra fans have shared their hopes of hearing one last album from Jeff Lynne and the band.

Lynne, 76, confirmed the band would play their last-ever show at Hyde Park next year following a series of US tour dates and a hometown gig in Birmingham. The Over and Out tour may be the last chance to catch the Mr. Blue Sky and Don’t Bring Me Down hitmakers, but fans are hopeful of a live album or new material from Lynne before then.

While no official announcement has been made regarding another album after 2019’s From Out of Nowhere, some fans took to the ELO Reddit page and voiced their hope for another Lynne-led piece before he retires from the stage.

User antone97bow wrote: “I was fortunate enough to catch the show Saturday in LA and their postponed last show in Phoenix last night. I didn’t think they could blow me away anymore than they did on Saturday, but boy was I mindblown in Phoenix!

“What are the odds that we’ll get an Over and Out live album? I figured I’d throw this seed out in hopes it happens!” While many may hope for a Hyde Park recording, some pointed out it would be difficult to deliver on the high bar set by previous recordings like Live and Wembley or Bust.

One fan added: “I think it needs to be stressed that Jeff will be headlining BST Hyde Park and not BBC Radio’s Festival In A Day event held at the same event, so there’s less chance of this being recorded.

“Based on previous dates from this tour, any resulting live album would need extensive vocal overdubbing when compared to the official 2014 release, where only some occasional pitch correction were applied. (The live broadcast feed lacked this, but came at the cost of a generally rougher mix.)”

But some remain hopeful of a live album from the Over and Out tour given how good the band are sounding. One user wrote: “Honestly I just want a live album of this tour. The LA concert on Friday was just fantastic and I don’t think any audience recording I’ve heard does justice to how fantastic the song and atmosphere was.”

Another added: “Yes! Amazing! Worth the wait! Lifelong memories! I need a concert video with all the lights and graphics!”

No official announcement of a new album is expected at this time. ELO last released an album in 2019 with From Out of Nowhere. The band has released live material from the last decade, both archival and contemporary. 2013 saw they release of Live, a collection of recordings taken from a PBS Zoom promotional show while Wembley or Bust was released in 2017 after the band’s sellout performance at Wembley Stadium.

BBC Radio 2 had previously recorded the band’s Hyde Park gig, releasing live footage of a Mr. Blue Sky performance a decade ago.

Hopes of new material come as ELO were criticised for their use of artificial intelligence at their US shows. One fan dubbed the band’s use of generated images over hiring an artist as “lazy”.

  1. I was lucky enough to be able to see ELO three times in my life. The first time was “Out of the Blue tour ” in 1978. From that time on, I have been amazed and stimulated by the mix of classic, pop,and even opera sounds. Being at the Over and Out concert, I realized that this group, Jeff Lynne, was truly one of a kind. His unique mixtures of old, new, and future is absolutely mesmerizing! There will never be anything like that sound again!

  2. I’ve seen Jeff four times (Time Tour ‘81 in Cleveland, Detroit in 2018, Pittsburgh in 2019, and Cleveland in 2024). He never disappointed. Met all the other ELO members from the 1970s and each was terrific. Cordial, accommodating for pictures/autographs.
