The Rolling Stones fans make new album predictions with announcement imminent

The Rolling Stones’ new album rumours have sent fans into a frenzy, with many sharing their thoughts on what’s in store.

While the Mick Jagger-fronted group made it clear new material recorded around the same time as Hackney Diamonds would eventually be released, fans were left in the dark on when it would be. It appears the time for new music is now, though, with the band teasing the public on April 1 with a series of posters around London. A QR code on the poster would lead to a site featuring The Cockroaches on a poster. The Cockroaches is what The Rolling Stones used as their name for a gig in the mid-1970s, which was eventually released as their El Mocambo 1978 album.

Fans have since taken to the r/RollingStones subreddit to discuss their theories on what the new material may sound like.

One fan wrote: “Let’s comment any of our predictions on The Stone’s new upcoming releases, just for fun, and see if they come true or not. I’ll start: The album cover will be blue or predominantly blue.

“This prediction has kind of come out of nowhere, but if you look at their catalogue, a lot of their album covers are predominantly blue (Aftermath, Between The Buttons, Satanic Majesties, Black And Blue, Emotional Rescue, Undercover, Steel Wheels, Bridges To Babylon, Blue and Lonesome).”

Another fan added: “What I really hope is that Keith [Richards] and Mick had a deal, one ‘modern’ album and then an album going back to a more retro period. Couldn’t they produce some great country songs again? An album along those lines would be beautiful.”

The original poster agreed, and shared their hopes of an ambitious new album from the band. They replied: “I hope for a more stripped production, which they likely will have. The Rolling Stones have historically followed up really ambitiously produced albums with more stripped back ones, think Their Satanic Majesties Request to Black and Blue, Bridges To Babylon to A Bigger Bang.

Dirty Work was a very ‘modern’ ’80s-sounding album and they followed it up with Steel Wheels, which has a more classic Stones sound.”

A third fan has noted the pending release of the album’s lead single, scheduled for tomorrow (April 11), as one to watch out for. They wrote: “Tomorrow’s single will be blues-rock’n’roll. Something they feel strongly about and gets the vibe of the album. The album will be similar to Hackney Diamonds. Kinda a sister album if you will. I’m betting slightly less modern than that record.”

Matt Everitt took to Instagram with pictures of the QR code poster and wrote: “I could be falling for an elaborate April Fool’s hoax, or I could have dropped down a rabbit hole of obscure Stones folklore, but this would appear to be some form of cryptic Rolling Stones announcement, right?”

Another fan took to Instagram and shared similar QR code sightings, adding: “I’ve got form on spotting these – it was me that first clocked the Hackney Diamonds advert in the Hackney Gazette before they announced that album – and now I’m intrigued by this advert, which has popped up in London.

“The QR code takes you to thecockroaches.com, and a holding page that shows a sparse ‘70s bedroom complete with various ephemera dotted around – some plectrums, concert tickets, and vinyl records – plus a poster for The Cockroaches and a clock stuck on April 11th.”
