Bleed they shall on a heavy-hitting sophomore track from collaborative ensemble Temps. James Acaster is the man behind the mask and the man on top form with bleedthemtoxins. His continued inclusion of drum-related stand-up tales has led him back to his roots of percussion. Joined by a slate of quality musicians, it is hard not to be excited about Temps’ debut album. Until then, fans of big-band inclusivity will have to rattle the cage of bleedthemtoxins, a brilliant mixture on this Quelle Chris and Joana Gomilla-featuring single. Temps’ first track no,no did much the same and crucial to the success of that track, like bleedthemtoxins, is the fiery party gator-led collaboration.
Shimmering vocals gently push through an ambient piece that successfully marks what Temps hope to do. Layer after layer on the second single ahead of Party Gator Purgatory. Constant vocal presence and the variety of individuality on the go throughout bleedthemtoxins is as important as the layering that comes through with it. Interesting mixes that give a softer touch to the saxophone and brass that bursts through in the latter stages of the song. It feels broad and disjointed at times and that is the appeal of Temps. Certainly more reserved than no,no but bleedthemtoxins hopes for a bolder, broader flow to its lyricisms and its tone. Its disconnected instrumentals, its springs of hope and wonder, are well-defined.
Free the Martians, free the mind, bleed them toxins. What a triple bill of promise. That is the key after all. A spiritual journey to bleedthemtoxins, to give up the harsher sentiments settling in the mind. bleedthemtoxins is, for all its mastering of the weird and wonderful, a well-tuned and interesting track that plays with just about anything that could have been found in the recording studio. Each vocalist, every featured artist, is given that brief flutter to shine through and for most of Temps, that means taking advantage of that little pocket to do something different. Those slim differentiations are more than enough to mark bleedthemtoxins as an interesting piece that relies on its studio production and slick mix more than anything else. Party Gator is back though, one of the most visually enjoyable artists since deadmau5, but without the mystery of who is behind the mask.
Maybe there is something more to the mask. There is something more to bleedthemtoxins, a delightfully worked track. While it does not share the qualities of no,no, the rich texture of the lyrics, and the broadness of bleedthemtoxins provides an interesting track. Temps was and is about the fundamentals of experimentation. Where it can take a large, international collection of artists. A goal is met and an enjoyable experience comes from Temps’ latest single. Acaster’s obsession with the yellow-billed gator provides a musical experience that depends on unity and overlapping creativity. Holding that deep within bleedthemtoxins is a more obvious pointer, a fresh rush that shows the broad range of qualities Temps can offer. Interesting work for sure, and paired with no,no, a nice double bill is formed ahead of the release of PARTY GATOR PURGATORY. For now, bleedthemtoxins make that purgatory limbo bearable.
