Pulp’s This is Hardcore looks like it may be set for a glossy hardback treatment as funding for Paul Burgess and Louise Colbourne’s piece closes in on hitting its funding goal.
Hardcore, described as a “lush visual celebration of Pulp’s sixth album,” is just 10% away from hitting its target of £45,000.
Potential backers have just 23 hours left to pledge their cash toward the project, which has currently raised £40,889.47 of its goal, with 806 backers currently pledged to the project.
The hardback piece, which has been slated for an Autumn 2023 release should the pledge total be fulfilled, features “unseen photography, behind-the-scenes interviews and revealing visuals” exclusive to the Burgess and Colbourne work.
An overview of the project read: “From the mid-to-late 1990s, Paul Burgess was invited by Jarvis Cocker to document the British band Pulp, taking photographs during video shoots, live gigs and other events for what has become one of the landmark albums of the period, This Is Hardcore.
“Written and designed by Burgess and Louise Colbourne, Hardcore contains a candid selection of previously unseen images of the band, behind the scenes and on set, of the four main video shoots made to promote the album.”
Teasing a selection of visuals and writings for the book, the Volume pledge page revealed not just some contents of the book but pledge rewards for those bagging themselves a copy.
Pledge rewards start at £40, with potential backers receiving their name in the book and exclusive updates on the progress of the Hardcore project.
Those hoping to bag a little extra can get themselves a signed book, badge set, exclusive t-shirt, limited edition print and even a slipcased book – all available in different levels of the pledge.
Writing on the Volume pledge page, Burgess and Colbourne said: “Pulp are one of the true art-school bands, so the intention of the book is not to exist just as a document of the band, but to act as a creative catalyst and shine a new light on the album This Is Hardcore and the era that was the late 1990’s.”
Said works, which see American artist John Currin’s Rosebush collection and the inspirations of Help the Aged come to life, are featured in the book.
Hardcore saw its project pledge date extended by thirty days after Pulp announced their reunion tour, slated for 2023.
Those wishing to pledge to the book within the final twenty-four hours can find a link here.
Campaigning for the book ends Thursday, December 1 at 6pm.
