Fans of the incomparable songwriter Glen Hansard have shared footage of his duet with Bruce Springsteen following the Academy Award-winning songwriter’s death. Hansard was confirmed to have died in a single-vehicle collision earlier today (July 29). Hansard was 56 at the time of his death. Tributes to the late performer, who bagged an Oscar for Once in 2007, have been shared on social media.
A live duet Hansard performed with Springsteen and The E Street Band has since been shared on social media, with listeners paying their respects to the All That Was East is West of Me Now songwriter. Hansard and Springsteen joined forces on stage to play Drive All Night during The Boss’ show in Kilkenny, Ireland, on July 27, 2013.
Footage of the performance, uploaded back in 2013, has seen fans return to the video and share their tributes to Hansard. One person wrote: “What a voice, and what a wonderful man. R.I.P. Glen.” Another added: “Your voice, your humanity, your musicianship will be dearly missed.”
A third recalled the time they had bumped into Hansard after a trip to the pub. They hailed Hansard as “the man man in Dublin” and wrote: “I came out of a Dublin pub one cold December night; Glen was walking right in front of me. Just outside the pub, two young teenage boys were busking. Glen stopped to listen, me too. After a song or two, Glen asked the kids if he could play a song with them. The young boys were blown away with him. And he stayed way too long from his girlfriend’s point of view. Glen the main man in Dublin. Loved very much.”

A statement from Hansard’s management has since confirmed the passing. The statement reads: “With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Glen Hansard who passed away, in the early hours of this morning, following a road traffic accident in Dublin. Glen’s family is deeply shocked and heartbroken by this tragic loss and respectfully requests privacy at this extremely difficult time.
“The family is grateful for the support they have received and wishes to thank the emergency services who attended the scene. As this matter remains the subject of an active Garda investigation, no further comment will be made at this time.”
