The Beatles fans believe band ‘missed their chance’ to release elusive song from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band sessions

Fans of the legendary band The Beatles remain hopeful that an unreleased song will see the light of day.

Despite their hopes, some listeners admit it may be too late to release the song and that, had it been any good, it would already have featured on the Anthology album. Some believe the song in question will still be released, but after the remaining two Beatles, Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney, have died. Others have suggested Carnival of Light, a soundscape recorded early in the sessions for Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, will never be released. A post to the r/PaulMcCartney subreddit had hopeful listeners sharing when they believe the song will release.

The post reads: “When do you think Carnival of Light is coming out? This song is unreleased. But Paul has the tapes to it, he has been wanting to release this since Anthology 2. It has been some time since then, so when do you think it will come out? In our lifetimes? Or will it stay unreleased, which I very much hope not.”

One fan replied: “I think it’s legend looms larger than the track itself. In a way, it’s better if it doesn’t get released because it will never live up to its perceived hype. As an unreleased track is has this mystery and allure, released it’ll be something that might not be as amazing and would taint that legendary status.”

Another added: “I firmly believe it must be terrible, they would of released long ago if it were any good.” A third wrote: “It isn’t. Let it go. And even if it does, it’s going to be an unlistenable mess — a sound cacophony. It’s the kind of thing someone will put on once, go ‘huh,’ turn off, and then never listen to again.”

Others have suggested that the song may not be released until Starr has died, with the drummer having previously vetoed Carnival of Light‘s release. The fan wrote: “Probably after Ringo dies (if he dies first) or maybe even after all the Beatles are gone. George was pretty against putting out, and I don’t think Ringo would ever want it released in his lifetime because of that.”

One fan believes the chance to release Carnival of Light has come and gone, with Anthology 4 the perfect time to release such a song. The fan wrote: “I think they missed their chance twice to release it without it being a big disappointment with the Sgt pepper remaster and Anthology 4.

I doubt they’d ever release it as a single or on its own due to the fact that it’d be no doubt too weird and unstructured to sell without it bombing critically and commercially. It’d have to be included as part of a larger product, and I don’t think there is another one that would make sense coming up. I hope I’m wrong though.”
