The Rolling Stones announce new album, Foreign Tongues, following The Cockroaches teaser

The Rolling Stones have confirmed they will release a new album, Foreign Tongues, just weeks after teasing their return under a moniker.

The Mick Jagger-fronted group has gone by The Cockroaches before, notably when promoting Black and Blue. Attendees were left in the dark for a show in 1977 later released as El Mocambo 1977, with The Cockroaches taking to the stage. It turned out to be The Rolling Stones, and the same connection has been made by fans of the veteran rockers, who promoted their latest album, Foreign Tongues, with a series of posters across London, England. A teaser single, Rough and Twisted, was released as a limited-run vinyl, which fans were desperate to get their hands on.

Further teasers of the new album were posted to The Rolling Stones’ social media accounts between the release of the song and the announcement of Foreign Tongues. A reveal of the album cover, seen above, appeared on the band’s social media page earlier this week and a promise of further details to follow on May 5.

Ronnie Wood confirmed the band had been working on a new album in 2025, saying: “Yes, you will be gettin ga new album next year. It is done.” Andrew Watt has produced Foreign Tongues, returning to the studio with The Rolling Stones after 2023’s Hackney Diamonds.

Rumours over Foreign Tongues being the band’s final album were shut down too, with insiders alleging that The Rolling Stones have recorded enough songs for another album. Songs featured on Foreign Tongues are believed to have been left over from the Hackney Diamonds recording sessions.

A release date of July 10, 2026, had been rumoured at the time of the first teaser release. This has since been confirmed.

A statement released to the band’s mailing list reads: “Foreign Tongues, the incredibly vibrant 14-track new album from the Rolling Stones, follows less than three years after the band’s universally acclaimed, Grammy Award-winning Hackney Diamonds, which topped charts worldwide and achieved multi-platinum success.

Preceded by the upbeat and infectious lead single In The Stars, Foreign Tongues was brought to life in under a month at Metropolis Studios in West London, with Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood reuniting with Grammy-winning producer Andrew Watt. The result is a dynamic and forward-looking record that captures the band’s unmistakable sound while pushing into new sonic and lyrical territory, further cementing their unparalleled legacy.

“The album features standout performances from Jagger, Richards and Wood, alongside their core collaborators including Darryl Jones, Matt Clifford and Steve Jordan. It also includes a special appearance from Charlie Watts, captured during one of his final recording sessions before his passing in 2021.

“Additional contributions come from an impressive line-up of guest artists, including Steve Winwood, Paul McCartney, Robert Smith (The Cure), and Chad Smith of The Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Lead single In The Stars is out now.
