Kneecap manager hits back at TfL claim over censored Fenian album posters

Kneecap’s manager has slammed Transport for London after the government body claimed they were given redacted posters for the band’s latest album, Fenian.

Daniel Lambert claims that internal delays within TfL caused the rap trio to miss deadlines associated with the release of their second studio album. Kneecap released Fenian on May 1. In a post made to X, Lambert said: “The company we book London tube ads with confirmed our original artwork was NOT accepted by TFL & FENIAN had to be removed. We then provided a redacted poster – took a week for approval & deadlines missed. Delay was then TfL making the decision to even approve redacted one.”

Lambert’s comment comes in response to a TfL statement featured in the Belfast Telegraph. Transport for London told the outlet: “The redacted style of the poster reflects the version that was submitted to us for approval. We did not request any changes to the artwork before the current advertising campaign commenced.”

When asked if a decision had been made by an authority other than Transport for London, a spokesperson added: “To be clear, the posters on display are the copy the band provided to us, which we subsequently approved.”

Lambert had also issued a statement regarding the posters on May 4, writing: “The London Underground only accepting these posters with ‘Fenian’ and ‘Keir Starmer’ both blanked out… See it. Say it. Censored.”

Kneecap, along with censored posters across the London Underground, featured Prime Minister Keir Starmer on a billboard found on 54 Cable Street in London, England. A statement from the band reads: “Keir’s been chatting shit about us for years now….so we got a billboard in London just for him with a few words he had to say about us when he was in Belfast.”

Kneecap are set to perform a series of European festival shows over the summer, with performances confirmed for Barcelona, Madrid, and Helsinki. The trio will also perform at Crystal Palace Park in London on Juen 27, with support from The Mary Wallopers.

Further performances in the UK are also scheduled, with Kneecap set to feature as part of the Reading and Leeds Festival lineup. Also on the lineup are Charli XCX, Fontaines DC, and Geese.

Lambert has been contacted for further comment.
