Legendary songwriter Cat Stevens has postponed his US book tour, citing visa delays as the reason.
The Father and Son hitmaker had previously toured the UK on both a book tour and as a supporting act for Neil Young‘s BST Hyde Park show. Stevens, who is also known by the name Yusuf, confirmed he would have to delay his US tour indefinitely. His book, Cat On the Road to Findout, is set for release on October 2, 2025. The new autobiography is said to be a reflection on the legendary songwriter’s life and career, and its upcoming release prompted a UK tour from the artist. But a US tour to follow it up has since been scrapped, with new dates seemingly “some time away” because of touring schedules. The first date of the book tour was set for October 2 in Philadelphia, but has since been cancelled.
A statement from Stevens reads: “Sadly, my Cat on the Road to Findout Book Tour in the U.S. looks like it won’t go ahead as scheduled in October. Waiting months for visa approvals, we held out as long as we could. However, at this point, the production logistics necessary for my show cannot be arranged in time.
“I am really upset! Not least for my fans who have bought tickets and made travel plans to see me perform. North American audiences may still get a chance to see the tour if visa approvals eventually come through.
“Those dates would be some time away because of other travel tour plans but, hopefully, fans will be able to hop on the Peace Train route at some time in the future. Meanwhile, tour delays should not affect the book, which you’ll still be able to enjoy… the obvious benefit of it being — books don’t need visas!”
Stevens’ upcoming book can be purchased for £25. A description of the book reads: “After exploring Buddhism, Zen, Hinduism, and astrology, in 1975 he again came face-to-face in a dangerous encounter with fate; a near-drowning experience in the ocean led to a massive transformative commitment to the Omniscient Power which miraculously saved him. This was fulfilled when his brother gifted him a copy of the Qur’an. By 1977, he embraced Islam, changed his name to Yusuf Islam, and shocked the world by leaving the music industry, dedicating his life to God, family, and humanitarian work.
“Yusuf’s inspirational story is one of quest, survival and redemption. With over 100 million records sold and billions of streams, still today, his soulful voice and poetic lyrics continue to inspire, now intertwined with a life of activism and altruism. As a campaigner for faith education, ecological consciousness and humanitarian work, Yusuf has become a global advocate for peace and coexistence.
“Findout unveils the untold chapters of his remarkable journey, illustrated with dozens of drawings in Yusuf’s own hand. Self-penned with raw honesty and poetic insight, he reflects on the challenges, controversies, and triumphs that have defined his life, offering readers a rare glimpse into the soul of a man who has lived multiple lives in one – finally shedding light on all those hidden ‘in-betweens’.
