What Paul McCartney played in surprise Santa Barbara show including one song not performed since 1990

Paul McCartney dug deep into his discography for his surprise show at the Santa Barbara Bowl in California last night.

The Beatles and Wings member played a staggering twenty-six song set and introduced a classic to his setlist for the first time since 1990. Also featured in the setlist is a song McCartney has only played at his soundcheck events. The slight changes to the setlist make a huge difference to the show, with McCartney set to tour the Got Back show across the United States until late November. The Let It Be hitmaker had played three surprise shows in the US earlier this year, with three days at The Bowery in New York City delighting fans. He also featured on the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary show. This is the first full show from McCartney since February, and the setlist does not disappoint.

McCartney not only brought Coming Up into the set but performed Help!, The Beatles’ classic track, for the first time since 1990. A full setlist for the Santa Barbara show can be found below.

The massive setlist and Got Back tour comes as McCartney confirms details of a “lovingly curated time capsule” compilation album representing Wings’ decade of music. The album, WINGS, will be released in several formats, including a 1LP and 2CD set on November 7.

McCartney personally curated the song selection, which features classics from Band on the Run and deep cut hits like Arrow Through Me from Back to the Egg. A 3LP set will also be released, which features a hardback slipcase designed by McCartney and Aubrey Powell.

The three-LP set features thirty-two songs from Wings’ back catalogue, including deep cuts like Helen Wheels and Deliver Your Children. The announcement comes as a book on the band is set for release later this year.

A product description for the 3LP Wings collection reads: “WINGS  is the ultimate anthology of the band that defined the sound of the 1970s. A lovingly curated time capsule of imagery and music personally overseen by Paul McCartney, WINGS  includes thirty-two timeless international hits, including Band on the Run, Live and Let Die, Jet and Let ‘Em In – songs that still feature in his live shows to this day.

“Presented in a hardback slipcase, the 3LP 180g vinyl collection was designed by Paul and Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell of Hipgnosis. The expanded booklet also includes an introduction by Paul plus extensive album-by-album notes on the iconic artwork written by Po, with additional editorial by Pete Paphides and showcases original portraits of the band by Humphrey Ocean. In addition to the booklet, the 3LP set includes a poster.”
