Electric Light Orchestra fans are hoping for two songs in particular from Jeff Lynne and the band at their Hyde Park farewell show.
Lynne, 77, confirmed ELO‘s final show would be at Hyde Park, eleven years after the band returned on the very same stage. Fans of the Mr. Blue Sky and Evil Woman songwriter are hoping for a few surprises in the setlist as the UK leg of the Over and Out Tour kicks off. Lynne will play shows in Birmingham, Manchester, and London, to conclude ELO’s time on stage.
A post to the ELO Reddit forum saw fans share their hopes for Time deep cuts, some songs from Balance of Power and even some classics which were missing from the US tour. A fan wrote: “I hope he’ll bring back Calling America and Twilight for the UK shows! He had already removed them from the setlist when I saw him last year. What do you think the odds are?”
Some fans were not as optimistic for deep cuts from the band, saying the song choices on the US leg contained more than a few surprises. One wrote: “If anything, it’s probably just gonna be the final (few?) shows. I’m guessing they were removed for being a bit more intense on the vocals.”
I hope he’ll bring back Calling America and Twilight for the UK shows!

Another responded, joking: “I tried singing Twilight at my karaoke show and it absolutely kicked my ass. And I usually absolutely own any ELO song.” But some are hopeful of the “final one” being a place where Lynne pulls out all the stops and has some surprises for fans of the band.
One fan who made note of the US tour wrote: “There were setlist revisions all the way through the US tour leg, but with the very last UK show being the headline slot for a festival, I would assume it’s going to be geared more to a casual audience.”
Lynne performed Calling America on the first two shows of the US leg but it was “quickly dropped” according to the original poster. Twilight was performed on the Over and Out Tour’s first show but was dropped from all future performances. A fan wrote: “I’ve read that Twilight is one of their most complex songs and apparently after opening night, it was felt that weren’t nailing it.”
It comes as fans also speculate on who could open for the band on their Hyde Park date. One user suggested The Move and original ELO member Roy Wood could join the show. They wrote: “Don’t wanna get everyone’s hopes up but Roy Wood is forming a new band, hopefully by next year. He did say last week that if he was asked, he’d be the warm up act.”
