What Neil Young performed during second set of Love Earth tour with Chrome Hearts

A second show on the Love Earth tour for Neil Young saw the legendary songwriter perform some of his all-time greatest songs.

With upcoming dates at Glastonbury Festival, Malahide Castle, and a US tour to follow, Young is touring the globe on the back of his new album, Talkin’ to the Trees. He has also released the archival album Oceanside Countryside, and the documentary soundtrack Coastal, earlier this year. The documentary, also titled Coastal, was directed by Daryl Hannah. Young does not appear to be slowing down either, with the veteran musician taking to the stage in Bergen, Norway, for a setlist filled with classics from his discography, as well as songs from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Young and new band, Chrome Hearts, took to the stage with performances of some of the Harvest songwriter’s best-ever tracks.

It comes just two days after the kick-off show of the tour in Sweden. A further set of shows are to follow, with Young’s next date in Copenhagen, Denmark, slated for June 22. A full setlist for the Bergen, Norway show can be found below.

Young will perform in the headline slot of Glastonbury Festival this year, after briefly dropping out of the Pyramid Stage slot. Those attending the festival are now asking where to start with Young’s discography, ahead of his headline show.

Cult Following previously reported on the listening recommendations, with some fans believing a compilation effort from Young’s discography is the perfect place to start.

A fan wrote: “I think Decade would be a pretty good place to start, it’s an older compilation but will give you a general taste for his music. For an indication of what he’s like as a live act, try Weld or Way Down In The Rust Bucket.”

Another suggested running through the hits of Young’s discography, adding: “Honestly, start at Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (his second album, and the first one with his longtime band Crazy Horse) and keep going from there with After The Gold Rush, Harvest, Time Fades Away, On The Beach, and Tonight’s The Night.

“After that, Rust Never Sleeps (you can listen to the albums in between, but Rust is the next ‘classic’ imo). If you want to hear him live and extremely loud, check out the live album Weld.”

A third user narrowed it down to just three essential albums. They wrote: “After the Gold Rush, Rust Never Sleeps, and Freedom are my favourite albums by him. He does both electric and acoustic equally well. You are in for a treat because he has a great rapport with the audience.”
