Paul McCartney shares Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run autobiography cover art

Paul McCartney has shared the finalised artwork for the front cover of upcoming autobiography, Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run.

The book was announced by McCartney earlier this year and is set for a November 4 release. Confirmation of the cover art comes from a McCartney newsletter, with the listing on Waterstones updated to include the new cover art. The Wings autobiography is compiled of over forty hours worth of new interviews, with a foreword penned by McCartney.

A description for the book reads: “A landmark account of Paul McCartney’s triumphant musical reinvention in the 1970s and the rise of one of the decade’s most iconic bands

“As the Sixties came to a close, Paul McCartney was faced with the daunting prospect of being a solo artist for the first time. Wings’ ascension to the top of the charts with classic albums including Band on the RunVenus and Mars and At the Speed of Sound, along with the band’s stadium-filling live shows, would prove to critics and fans that not all great acts are impossible to follow.

Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run is a rousing, stereophonic celebration of the songs, collaborations and performances that would shape the soundtrack of the late 20th century.

“Drawn from over 500,000 words, based on dozens of hours of interviews with McCartney and numerous key players in the band’s orbit, Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run weaves together the improbable trajectory of Paul McCartney and his newly formed band (featuring co-founding members Linda McCartney and Denny Laine) across the technicolor 1970s until their dissolution in 1981.”

A further description for the book adds: “Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run features over 150 photographs capturing Wings throughout the years – many previously unseen – and shot by an array of photographers including Linda McCartney, Mike McCartney, Clive Arrowsmith, Henry Diltz, Robert Ellis and Paul himself. The book also includes memorabilia, including some of Paul’s diary page entries from the time and handwritten lyrics.

Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run is an international story that moves through space as well as time, including adventures in Scotland, New York, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Nashville, Lagos, Japan, the Virgin Islands, Morocco, Montserrat and other memorable places, against the backdrop of political and social timelines of the 1970s.”
