Pink Floyd fans ‘spot a face’ after flipping album cover upside down

Pink Floyd fans believe they have “spotted a face” when flipping an album cover upside down.

Though the user who posted to the r/PinkFloyd subreddit asked not to be put in the spin-off, circle jerk subreddit, it appears they are destined for it after sharing the Meddle album cover. Flipping it upside down reveals to some what would appear to be a giant nose and two bulging eyes at the top of the album. Without it being flipped, Meddle proves to be a gorgeous album cover, though fans were seemingly turning theirs upside down and seeing everything from faces to animals from across the globe. One user wrote: “Anybody else seen the face when you flip Meddle upside down? Please don’t put me in the circle jerk sub.”

One user suggested they “always see a camel” without flipping the album. They added that, once flipped, they could see “an upside-down camel.” Another agreed, adding: “Me too! I used to refer to Meddle as ‘the camel one’ to my dad when I was little.”

Some have suggested a face, or at least parts of a face, can be seen. One user wrote: “Nope, just the ear.” Another added: “I just see a nose with a flaring nostril.” A third wrote: “I spent a long time wondering what the hell is on the cover until I was told it’s an ear underwater, and now that I see it, it’s all I can see.”

Arguments over whether it was an ear or nose have since broken out in the comments of the post. One user wrote: “It has always been a nose, don’t listen to the ear gang.” Another user replied: “Sorry, wrong.” A third added: “It’s an ear. Look into it.”

An earlier post to the subreddit has seemingly confirmed the Meddle cover is an ear. The post reads: “Today I learned the cover of Meddle really is an ear underwater. I never saw the album cover like this before.” Rotating the album ninety degrees to the right seemingly shows the image of an ear.

Another fan wrote: “Storm Thorgerson originally suggested a close-up shot of a baboon’s anus for the album cover photograph. He was overruled by the band, who informed him via an intercontinental telephone call while on tour in Japan that they would rather have ‘an ear underwater’.”

A now sold print of Thorgerson’s Meddle cover has seemingly confirmed it is an underwater ear. The description reads: “Designed as the album artwork for Pink Floyd’s album Meddle, the image represents an ear as it lies underwater collecting waves of sound, represented by ripples in the water.”
