Lizzie Mayland has announced their debut EP, The Slow Fires of Sleep, with lead single Lighthouse out now.
The Last Dinner Party guitarist and vocalist teased solo material earlier this week, with the lead single making its debut on BBC Radio 6 today (April 17). Two intimate shows to support the release of the EP, which will be out on May 9, were also confirmed. Mayland says the songs are about “being in a healthy romantic relationship” and “the fear of losing that.” Mayland began writing The Slow Fires of Sleep while on tour with The Last Dinner Party. The five-track EP will be toured in London and Manchester next month.
Mayland described the EP as “about being in a healthy romantic relationship for the first time in my life and the fear of losing that. I storyboarded an idea for the video, then I heard Cal wanted to direct it and I was so pleased. He captured the elements which were the most important to me before lending his own aesthetic talents.
“These tracks definitely grew from those periods. Suddenly finding myself in my quiet flat and filling that silence with my guitar and these sad songs. It was a way to process what was happening in my life, to come back to myself.” Mayland has since teased what will feature on the five-track EP, including an “apocalyptic end” to the final song.
They shared: “It was important to me that the end of the song didn’t feature my voice at all. I wanted an apocalyptic feeling, like a texture, that Will and Immy [producers Will Lister and Imogen Williams] captured perfectly.” A tracklist for The Slow Fires of Sleep can be found below.
