Pink Floyd fans think they have spotted ‘first signs of peace’ between Roger Waters and David Gilmour

Fans of the legendary progressive rock group Pink Floyd believe they have seen the “first signs of peace” between members Roger Waters and David Gilmour.

An infamous bust-up and a venomous back-and-forth ever since Waters left the band in 1985 led some to believe there was no hope of a reunion. But the band did get back together to play a brief set at Live8. From there, though, bandmates Waters and Gilmour have traded some jabs at one another. From Gilmour calling Waters “rotten to your antisemitic core” to Waters doubting whether Gilmour was happy continuing Pink Floyd without him, the relationship is fractious, to say the least. Even then, fans believe they have seen the first sign of peace between the two legendary musicians.

A post to the official Pink Floyd Instagram account saw the group promote Waters’ “redux” boxset edition of The Dark Side of the Moon. His revised version of the 1974 classic, called Roger Waters: The Dark Side of the Moon Redux, released in 2023. It has since received a boxset release, which is on sale now. A post about this album to the official Pink Floyd social media account appears to have caught the interest of fans, who discussed the post on the r/PinkFloyd subreddit.

One fan asked: “Is this the first sign of peace between both camps since Live8?” Some are unconvinced that this is a sign of friendliness between Waters and Gilmour, with the latter musician coincidentally releasing his Luck and Strange on Waters’ birthday.

One user wrote: “No, it’s the sign that Sony has control of Floyd’s social media accounts in addition to owning their catalogue’s distribution rights.” Another replied: “Imagine David, laying in his bed, phone in hand, Pink Floyd Instagram up, posting pictures and stories.”

A third added: “Pretty sure this has more to do with the sale of their catalogue than anything else.” Even with the sale of the catalogue, a few sceptics believed there was a friendliness involved in promoting the Waters project, which has split fan opinion.

One wrote: “Not sure about that, as the Redux version of The Dark Side of the Moon shouldn’t have been part of the catalogue sale. The social media account promoting solo releases from Roger as well as Nick/Rick/David may have been a condition of Roger agreeing to the sale.

“As for the actual item being promoted here… Phew. I mean, I appreciate the boldness of trying to reimagine The Dark Side of the Moon, but I really don’t enjoy the result. Seems like I am not the only one, and a box set of The Dark Side of the Moon Redux is definitely not a particularly hard buy for me.”

Another added: “The Dark Side of the Moon: Redux was just an exercise in narcissism, I agree. People have almost quickly forgotten about it. Most people buying this now aren’t going to be listening to it much. It’s just a collector’s item for them.”

A third wrote: “I thought the same. I’m guessing the rest of the Pink Floyd members are getting some form of compensation or royalty from this project, which is why they’re inclined to share it?”

Some are also convinced Waters and Gilmour will never bury the hatchet. One joked: “Peace is never an option between Roger and David. I’m convinced even when one of them dies, the other is going to have some real cutthroat thing to say about the other to dig that knife in one last time.”

Another added: “The way I see it, Rog and Dave just got to the stage of ‘agree to disagree.’ They will never agree, and there is no point in fighting because everything has been said already. For some reason, the general public can’t seem to take this as a happy ending.”
