Oasis fans are trying to figure out why the popular group receives so much hate, and have narrowed it down to three reasons.
The Gallagher brothers are set to hit the road later this year with sold-out shows across the globe, but some fans were wondering why the duo receives so much hate. A fan taking to the r/Oasis subreddit asked: “Why is there so much Oasis hate? Obviously I love Oasis and wouldn’t follow this thread if I didn’t but I have noticed that legit everyone close to me mocks me for it. Whenever I play an Oasis song on the TouchTunes or bring up anything Oasis related I feel most people meet it with serious hate and I can’t figure out why but it bums me out.”
Fans are now trying to figure out why the group has received such negative responses from other members of the public. One wrote: “I think it’s the personalities of the Gallagher brothers that turn a lot of people off. Especially people outside of the UK who don’t understand British working-class culture and humour.”
Another wrote: “It’s more than just issues with humour. Any time Noel opens his mouth in a hostile manner about politics, or makes it clear how much money drives him, it’s very, very, off-putting. Both brothers have a callous streak, talk a lot of shit about other artists, and mixed in with arrogance, and personal issues, it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea.
“I personally love Liam, even though I certainly have some notes. I’m sure both brothers know they aren’t for everyone. As long as they’re getting paid I’m not sure how much either cares. The brothers aren’t for everyone, and both are very much responsible for why they have haters. I personally love Liam (but have harsh criticisms), and tolerate Noel (and have even harsher criticisms because I genuinely believe he’s a POS with shit politics).”
Other users have narrowed it down to three main pointers on why people may dislike the band. One user wrote: “People only know Wonderwall, it’s overplayed, and the brothers don’t exactly have the best reputations.”
Another wrote: “If you’re in the US, it’s because so many people mainly only know Wonderwall and maybe the other hits from WTSMG. If you’re in the UK, the snobbier crowds view Oasis/Gallaghers as undeserving of their popularity and that other groups of the time like Blur, Suede, Pulp, etc are more deserving of the attention.”
Some have considered the hate valid but say there is a “weirdness” around the hate. One wrote: “For some people it’s just a case that Oasis are not their thing and that’s fine but there’s definitely a weirdness about the extent they are detested by some.
“A lot of it in the UK especially among the middle-class Guardian reader type is due to hatred of the working class and their culture. They scoff at the lyrics because they see them as uneducated. They mock the simple instrument use. They hate that they’ve sold more records than their ‘musically and lyrically superior’ favourites. They resent fans not caring about their critical reviews and opinions. And more than anything they really hate how much the band means to people and how much their fans love them.”

I don’t hate Oasis personally, I just think their music is, on the whole, dull and mediocre. There is one example of it being excellent with the track ‘Live Forever’, the reason why I bought Definitely Maybe when it came out, and the band’s best track by a country mile. Then on the other hand there are tracks like “Morning Glory” and “Look Back in Anger” which are so incredible bland and boring to my ears. Liam is a charismatic singer and frontman and he is very funny and seems to be a cool guy. Noal is an awful awful singer, a mediocre songwriter but also seems to be an ok bloke who has the air of someone who is a rock music fan but still not sure why or how they got so popular, but very happy with his lot regardless.
Also Wonderwall has some of the worst lyrics ever by a major band: “Today was gonna be the day, but they’ll never throw it back to you. By now, you should’ve somehow realised what you’re not to do. I don’t believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now”, being notably crap and nonsensical.
All well and good to reform but how can you reform Oasis with just two guys? Weren’t they a five piece band back in the day? It’s a con. Carry on….
Why do people hate Oasis? Hmmm, let’s see, oh wait I know, because their music sucks, really, truly sucks. It’s lame, like Barry Manilow (no offense Barry) on drugs(no offense drugs. Please don’t let them out of the UK again, we, the world, and real music listeners have suffered enough. Listen to some blues.
I liked them when I was 15 years old then I got into other bands who in my opinion are a lot better, without the image no one would give a shit about them. Plus Oasis fans are weird when you say they are not a band you listen to. I find there music boring and don’t like Liam or Noel’s voice either. I don’t hate them but they are really overrated.
This can have something to do with age. When I had teenage I had big problem with Oasis. I am adult woman now and I do not hate Oasis. I can listen Wonderwall I do not have to close my radio or change channel. You can have your opinion about Oasis and songs and lyrics my opinion about “I can see a liar, sitting by the fire” it is shite it is not my cup of tea. I watch British and Scottish movies and humour and I listen British music (and I also love polish metal in polish). But I do not listen everything. I have anglofilia.
