Bruce Springsteen fans still hopeful for new material from The Boss want it to continue in the style heard on Nebraska.
Fans of the legendary songwriter took to the r/BruceSpringsteen Reddit page and suggested it was time for another acoustic album from The Boss. His previous acoustic efforts, like The Ghost of Tom Joad and Devils & Dust, “need more love” according to fans who are also hoping for some stripped-back songs from Springsteen. No new material or new album are confirmed but a tour this summer has some hoping for the inclusion of deep cuts from his 2000s catalogue. One user wrote: “Isn’t it time for an acoustic album now?” Fans agreed it was time for another album in the style of Nebraska, and are hoping it happens.
Another user replied: “Devils & Dust needs more love. Reno puts people off (prudes) but the title track is one of his best songs and there are many a gem on it.” Another suggested Western Stars was “essentially an acoustic album” though other users specified they actually wanted a Springsteen solo album.
One user asked: “Are you measuring an acoustic album, or a solo album? Nebraska was for all intents and purposes solo. Acoustic can have backing musicians. I look at it more as “what’s Bruce playing?” (I don’t recall him holding a single electric in the movie but it’s been a while) and the level of production.”
Other users say they would simply be satisfied with fresh material from The Boss, whether it is Nebraska-like or not. One wrote: “Seeing him on the last tour, he sounded great and was playing well, I don’t care what he does next. I’d prefer he do some original material. If he’s not gonna do original material, though, I wouldn’t mind something in the same style as the Seeger session stuff.”
Another added: “It’s bound to happen at some point. Bruce has said himself that when he can’t rock as much as he used to anymore he sees himself having a career similar to Johnny Cash in his old age. Personally I’d take that over another soul cover album any day of the week.”
Ain’t it time for an Acoustic album now?

A third disagreed with hopes for a solo work, writing: “Please God no. Stevie was right, Bruce Springsteen AND the E Street Band, that’s the legend.” Another suggested there may not be much material left in Springsteen, adding: “I don’t think Bruce has much new material in him. Letter to You was not his best when compared to Joan, Devils, etc. Understandable. Age is not kind to most artists.”
A third wrote: “In a reductive sense, Bruce is usually associated with either E Street Band rock albums and solo works. In addition to the above, I would include Tunnel Of Love.
Let’s see…Seeger Sessions and Western Stars aren’t E Street but they aren’t really solo either since they’re done with different musicians. But I think something needs to be done to break the paradigm.”
