Sam Fender cancels homecoming show due to ‘logistical’ reasons after ‘haemorrhaged vocal cord’

Sam Fender has cancelled his Newcastle People Watching tour date after haemorrhaging his vocal cord.

The songwriter, 30, had initially hoped to reschedule the date, as well as the second night in Glasgow, but due to “logistical” reasons, the shows will now not take place. An email seen by Cult Following, sent by AXS Guest Services, confirmed Fender will no longer play the final two dates of his UK tour.

Instead, fans will be issued a full refund and their emails added to a waiting list for extra tickets for the St. James’ Park shows in June next year. The Seventeen Going Under songwriter is set to play Newcastle United’s stadium, St. James’ Park on June 12, 14, and 15. He will also play a date at London Stadium on June 6.

A statement from the team was shared by AXS regarding the cancelled homecoming show, which reads: “Unfortunately due to logistical reasons we will not be able to reschedule the Sam Fender show which was due to take place at Newcastle Arnea on 20th December and you will receive a full refund for your ticket purchase via ticket provider AXS.

“As a thank you for your understanding, please note we will also add your email address to the waiting list for tickets for the St. James’ Park shows on June 12, 14, & 15. We are expecting there will be a number of production hold ticket releases in the new year as we get closer to the show dates, and we will give you preferential access to purchase these tickets before these tickets will go on sale to the wider public.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.” It comes as Fender had to pull both the second Glasgow show and his homecoming show due to a haemorrhaged vocal cord.

A statement released by Fender on social media reads: “Glasgow and Newcastle, as most of you know I’ve had the flu for a few days now. Regardless of how compromised my voice was I did everything I could to get it in working order last night to put on the best show possible.

“Today I’ve had an ENT scope/camera down my throat and sadly I’ve haemorrhaged my right vocal cord, I’m absolutely heartbroken. This has been the best tour so far and all I want to do is get up and sing again for you all tonight. I’ve had two separate ENT doctors say if I perform tonight I’m risking lasting damage to my voice and I have been advised to be on vocal rest and not use my voice for a prolonged length of time until it heals.

“I’ve done everything by the book this tour living like a monk, it’s so unlucky. I’m so, so sorry to all of you who are on your way tonight. We’re trying to figure out a way to reschedule for you all, more news soon.”
