Pop duo Sparks have announced their 26th album will release in May and have re-signed with Island Records.
Sparks, consisting of Ron and Russel Mael, took to Twitter to announce the news that they would be releasing latest album, The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte, later this year.
With a release date of May 26th announced by the band via their Twitter page, the “utterly unique” pair are set to mark 50 years of releasing music.
Doing so with their 26th studio album, the pop and rock duo have also resigned with Island Records, who will release the album over 50 years on from their Kimono My House album in 1974.
A statement from the duo read: “Most other musicians, when they[‘ve been working for over half a century, are resting on their laurels, basking in the warm glow of their heritage, accepting the odd Lifetime Achievement Award, playing the odd Greatest Hits tour and concentrating on shifting their back catalogue.
“But Sparks are not most other musicians. They are utterly unique. With the release of their 26th album, The Girl Is Crying In her Latte, on May 26th Ron and Russell Mael continue on that unique and uncompromising path.
“And, in a move that is as unexpected as it is unsurprising, the new bold, genre-defying, modern masterpiece will be released by Island Records, the label that released their astonishing breakthrough record Kimono My House in 1974.”
Fans reacted well to the news, with one writing: “Back on Island again? I’m glad they’ve finally realised it was a mistake to ever lose you! Congrats Sparks!”
The duo’s most recent studio release, A Steady Drip, Drip Drip, released back in 2020, a year before their work on Annette.
