Bob Dylan performed Bringing it All Back Home classic for first and only time on this day in 2007

With so many hits under his belt, it’s inevitable that Bob Dylan isn’t going to have the time to perform all his greatest songs.

While the veteran songwriter is yet to perform the likes of Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands and Murder Most Foul live, some of his shorter, stronger songs were left off-stage for decades. Dylan can be coaxed into playing deep cuts and all-time greats with the right people behind him, as was the case when he performed with Jack White at the Ryman Auditorium on this day in 2007. Not only did The White Stripes member get Dylan to perform Bringing it All Back Home track Outlaw Blues for the first time, but a rousing rendition of One More Cup of Coffee (Valley Below) for the first time since 1993.

Dylan performed eighteen songs on this day in 2007, with classics from his discography filling the set along with a handful of songs from his at-the-time latest release, Modern Times. A full setlist for Dylan’s show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, can be found below.

  • Cat’s in the Well
  • Lay Lady Lay
  • I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight
  • Roll and Tumble Blues (Hambone Willie Newbern cover)
  • Workingman’s Blues #2
  • High Water (For Charley Patton)
  • Spirit on the Water
  • Tangled Up in Blue
  • One More Cup of Coffee (Valley Below) (with Jack White)
  • Outlaw Blues (with Jack White, live debut)
  • ‘Til I Fell in Love With You
  • When the Deal Goes Down
  • Stuck Inside of Mobile With the Memphis Blues Again
  • Ain’t Talkin’
  • Summer Days
  • Ballad of a Thin Man
  • Thunder on the Mountain
  • I Shall Be Released

Dylan would perform a Blood on the Tracks classic one time only just the day before this performance. White also featured on the rendition of Meet Me in the Morning, a song which had eluded Dylan’s live set for decades after the release of Blood on the Tracks.

It’s unlikely that Dylan will ever play Meet Me in the Morning again, and he’s yet to play it without a special guest. The White Stripes’ Jack White appeared with Dylan back in 2007 during a show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville to perform Meet Me in the Morning. It was a show filled with some of Dylan’s very best songs, with another Blood on the Tracks song also featured.

It’s unlikely, too, that Dylan will ever play Outlaw Blues again, though the veteran performer has been known to surprise his gig attendees. On the Outlaw Music Festival tour last year, Dylan performed the likes of Masters of War, Positively 4th Street, and Mr. Tambourine Man for the first time in years. Dylan has also introduced I Shall Be Released to his setlist for the first time in 18 years, and may continue to perform it on his upcoming European tour.
