Oasis fans believe one album from Noel and Liam Gallagher is far too hated considering it gave listeners one of the band’s best songs. Oasis made headlines throughout last year thanks to their return to the stage which featured sold-out dates across the globe. The Gallagher brothers are rumoured to be making a return to the stage in 2027 following the significant demand for the shows in 2025.
But until the band gets back on stage, Oasis fans are humouring themselves with a look back at some of their lesser works. Listeners were confused as to why Be Here Now was so poorly received not just on release, but why it hadn’t held up in the twenty-nine years after release. Fans took to the Oasis subreddit to share their thoughts on why the album hadn’t been caught up in a wave of love after the shows at Wembley Stadium, Murrayfield, and further afield.
The fan asked: “Seriously, so many people (including Noel himself lol) have shit on Be Here Now. I don’t understand it at all, I think it has some of Oasis’ best. Don’t Go Away is my personal favourite song ever, The Girl in the Dirty Shirt, I Hope, I Think, I Know, All Around the World, Stand by Me. Every song on it is great in my opinion, and all the demo versions with Noel are great.
“I think Liam sounds amazing in all of these tracks, and I really enjoy how full and layered Noel’s ‘wall of guitars’ is. The only critique that makes sense to me is when people say some of the songs, specifically All Around the World, are too long, but for me I don’t mind that. Can anyone tell me why they don’t like Be Here Now or if you’re like me and think it’s one of, if not the best Oasis album.”
Fans were quick to assess the merit of Be Here Now and deemed it simply not as good as what was released before. One listener wrote: “For me it just isn’t on the same level as the previous two. Couple of good songs, but no classics to elevate it beyond being a solid album. It is too long and loud and could have done with some good editing but you do sense at the time this would have been hard for anyone to tell them!”
Another added: “Because it’s over-produced and overly long and was massively over-hyped at the time. And it’s not as good as the first two albums.” A third wrote: “Because it’s not as good as the first two albums and essentially signifies the end of Oasis’ magical run of consistently great songwriting. It’s a good album but it gives lie to the idea to the Oasis myth of becoming of biggest band of all time.”
Others believe Be Here Now has not only stood the test of time but is the strongest Oasis release of all. One person wrote: “I genuinely feel its their best album at being an album, but it doesn’t have the same song peaks as the first two albums.”
Another disagreed, adding: “I actually like most of the songs, and I still enjoy the live versions from that era. My issue with the album has always been twofold. Firstly, as everyone says, the songs are just too long. But more importantly, the album itself sounds absolutely dreadful.
“The recording, production, engineering and mixing are all a mess. Everything is muddy, cluttered and suffocated under endless layers of noise. None of the instruments are allowed to breathe or stand out because there’s always something else smothered on top of them. It’s less a wall of sound and more a wall of shit.”
