Bob Dylan will not release a new album on January 10 of next year, despite rumours of a follow-up to Rough and Rowdy Ways. The veteran songwriter has not released new studio material outside of The Bootleg Series since his 2020 album. Rumours circulating on social media platform X show a screenshot of Dylan‘s Wikipedia page and his studio albums. On there is an album titled Afternoon Remedies at The Delta Hotel.
While it may have excited some fans initially that Dylan could be set to release new studio material, there are just a few red flags to indicate this will not be the case. Few, if any, artist would release their first album in six years on a Sunday, but the January 10, 2027 release date listed for Afternoon Remedies at The Delta Hotel would land on a Sunday. Traditionally, Friday has been the big release day, with few artists or labels challenging that.
Album distribution usually fell on a Tuesday, but as of 2015, Friday has been the normalised date of release. Tyler, the Creator and Sloppy Jane are artists who have recently gone against the Friday release cycle but, even if Dylan did release his alleged new album next year, it’d hardly be on a Sunday.
A few other indicators of a hoax can be found too in that checking the Wikipedia edits and the user behind it is, according to one X user, the same person who added a fake Bootleg Series addition just a few days ago. One keen-eyed X user wrote: “Looking at the edit history and the same person added fake Bootleg Series a few days ago that were soon removed.”
Another glaring issue appears to be the catalogue number for the album. One fan noted: “The catalogue number seems like the major giveaway. 1976 01 10 / 1910 10 06 Those correspond to January 10, 1976 and October 6, 1910. But maybe we can make up some Bob lore around these dates.”
Others were convinced the length of the alleged album title, Afternoon Remedies at The Delta Hotel, is not in-keeping with Dylan’s recent titles. Rock critic Steven Hyden wrote: “I’m suspicious of this. Afternoon Remedies at the Delta Hotel seems too wordy for a 21st century Bob Dylan album title. His range is one to four words, tops.”
Not everyone is convinced this is a hoax, though, with one fan suggesting that this is just the sort of move Dylan would make should he be given the choice of when to release his album and what to call it. They joked: “This seems obviously FAKE, but knowing Bob it’s probably stupid enough to be true.”
Another added: “Obviously fake, but fun to entertain the idea. If he ever does another (which I doubt), I could see him leaning really hard into a delta blues/tin pan alley thing so it tracks, although this title oversells the concept.”
