Bob Dylan fans were left enraged not just by a show cancellation but by the venue itself. The veteran songwriter was due to play a show in Raleigh last night (July 28) but was rained off before he got to the stage. Lucinda Williams and Jimmie Vaugh performed their sets and were praised by attendees, but Dylan did not get a chance to perform.
Fans have since taken to the Bob Dylan subreddit to share their grievances with not just the rained-off show but the venue itself. One fan wrote: “Venue kind of sucks. No roof over the crowd and a wonky setup. They are building a new version of the amphitheatre next door because they are expanding the convention centre.” Another replied: “Still no roof over the crowd though. Not sure weather issues would be resolved.”
A third added: “Having an indoor backup should be mandatory.” Others have questioned whether Dylan will make a return to Raleigh after his show at the Red Hat Amphitheatre was cancelled.
One fan wrote: “Bob, thanks for coming to our town, we were glad to have you – rain check? See you next time.” Another asked: “Actual chances of him coming back? I know age and timing is a factor. This was going to be my first time seeing so I’m super bummed.” Some are hopeful that Dylan will come back, but others have noted he is performing just down the road from Raleigh tonight (July 29).
A fan shared: “He’s headed to Wilmington tomorrow night, easy trip down the road.” Dylan will also play Atlanta on Friday. There aren’t many opportunities left to see Dylan in North America this year, with the All Along the Watchtower hitmaker performing across Europe from October to December.
It’s not the first show on the Long Hot Summer tour to be affected by the weather. Dylan’s performance at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York, was nearly called off but he was eventually allowed to perform. A full list of tour dates for the European tour can be found below.
