Mick Jagger ridiculed for wanting The Rolling Stones biopic: ‘They aren’t that interesting’

Mick Jagger may want a biopic of The Rolling Stones, but it appears some fans aren’t all that interested. The veteran rocker believes adapting the Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Charlie Watts-featuring group to the big screen is an inevitability, but fans have indicated no members bar one are interesting enough to be adapted to the big screen. While some may argue that Richards is welcome fodder for the big screen, some believe only Brian Jones has an interesting enough life to form a fully fleshed-out narrative.

While Jagger says he doesn’t know “which section” of the band’s career should be adapted to the big screen, he believes there is a case to be made for making a biopic for The Rolling Stones. He cited both the upcoming Beatles biopics and A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic showing his decision to go electric.

Jagger told GQ: “I don’t want to impart it to you, but I know how I see it. There’s lots of ways of doing biopics. So most of the time when you do a biopic, you do one small section of someone’s life bookended by some other stuff. Take the Bob Dylan movie. You do the moment when Bob went electric. You’d have to think, what are you going to zero in on? And where’s your two years of interest? I don’t know which section because it’s a long period.”

But Jagger’s comments were not well-received by fans, who believe the band is simply not interesting enough for a long enough period to make into a movie. One fan took to X and wrote: “The thing is that they aren’t actually that interesting. The Rolling Stones story plateaus at a certain point where the only interesting things stem from how awful they are.

“There’s also just no mystique around them at all, which probably is why only Brian has a biopic. I love The Rolling Stones. A true Stones fans can acknowledge how drab they are.” Others disagreed and suggested in a post to The Rolling Stones’ subreddit that a period of quality work from the band could be interesting to see adapted to the big screen.

One fan wrote: “The era of Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street would be a pretty fun watch.” Another disagreed, adding: “Leave the past in the past. I’m sick of these biopics for old rock stars. There are way more interesting people who deserve this recognition.” A third shared: “They have to include the time Charlie Watts punched Mick.”

A biopic of ex-member Brian Jones was made and released in 2005. It received negative reviews at the time of release and features Ben Whishaw as Keith Richards. Leo Gregory starred as Jones in the adaptation.
