Biopic praised as ‘best movie of 2025’ – now streaming on Netflix

A biopic praised as the “best movie of 2025” is now streaming on Netflix. The film, starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, received plenty of plaudits when it was first released and is now headed to the streaming giant. Hudson received a Best Actress nod at the Academy Awards for her portrayal of Claire Cartwright in a semi-autobiographical role alongside Jackman’s turn as Mike Sardina.

Netflix confirmed that Song Sung Blue, the music biopic based on the life of a husband and wife duo fronting a Neil Diamond tribute band, would arrive on the streaming platform on Sunday, June 13. The Craig Brewer-directed film is now streaming and has been hailed by viewers as one of the best films of 2025.

One fan writing up a review on iMDB praised Jackman and Hudson, hailing the project as “the best movie of 2025.” They added: “Jackman has another Greatest Showman on his hands. Kate Hudson is brilliant. This is a movie for those who say, ‘they don’t make them like they used to.’ Yes. Yes they do. This is a film for all ages. Its charms are immeasurable. The music is timeless. It’s a crowd-pleaser of the highest order. You’ll love this movie.”

Another reviewer added: “You’ll sing, laugh and cry. (Take a box of tissues. It’s the best movie we’ve seen in a long time. It exceeded our expectations. Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson were excellent singers. This movie should win awards. You don’t have to like Neil Diamond to love this movie. We’d go and see it again tomorrow.”

A third shared: “Such a magical way to bring a true life story to the silver screen. Kate Hutson is such a beautiful, talented, incredible actress who brings thunder in her fabulous performance. When there is thunder, there’s lightning, and that’s Hugh Jackman! A lightning bolt performance that brings this tragic but fun-loving true-life tribute to the big screen.”

A fourth added: “Whether or not you’re a fan of Neil Diamond, this beautiful story is less about Diamond and more about a love story between two people, fully committed to their family and each other through times of great joy and chapters filled with heartache and pain. Excellently written and performed, both Jackman and Hudson truly deserve the highest accolades and awards.

“The storyline is compelling and beautifully crafted and executed by an amazing cast. Rarely do I give a 10 in ratings, but this Oscar-worthy film deserves every star! It is a must-see movie! It’s relatable, tragic, inspirational, and entertaining! Truly rewarding!”

Song Sung Blue also holds a strong Rotten Tomatoes rating, with a respectable 72% rating. The film is named after the Neil Diamond song, Song Sung Blue, which was released in 1972. It also features on his album, Moods. The song served as the title of a 2008 documentary following the lives of a husband and wife duo who performed in a Neil Diamond tribute band, Lightning & Thunder.
